Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the perspective that children making everyday choices leads to self-centered adults, as well as the view that decision-making on relevant matters is important. A position is presented, though the development of ideas is limited and at times superficial. For instance, the argument regarding technology and fulfilling needs is unclear and underdeveloped. The overall discussion lacks extension and depth, which places this response at Band 5.0 according to the task response descriptors, as some ideas are under-developed and the position, while discernible, lacks clear elaboration.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which shows an attempt at overall organisation. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, such as 'so for that both the views are explained'. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or mechanical, and referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, pronouns like 'that' and 'his' are used confusingly in the body paragraphs, making it difficult to follow the logical links between sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion requires better management. These features align closely with Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is a mix of basic and minimally adequate ranges for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'technological advancement' and 'in-depth knowledge', but these are accompanied by frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'personal life choices is become' and 'fulfill needs so that it does not make any harm'. Spelling and word-formation errors, like 'necessaru' and 'aults', are noticeable and occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader. This corresponds to a Band 5.0 lexical resource level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('children personal life choices is become', 'childrens should'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms ('can only given rights'). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While communication is not entirely obscured, the high frequency of errors and faulty complex structures place this firmly within the Band 5.0 descriptor range.
