Student answer (Band 6.0)
Allowing childern to make their own choices on everyday matters like food, clothes and entertainment has two perspectives and each one has its own significance on child's personality. Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices gives them a sense of entitlement. A child will be starting to believe that he or she deserves the things which are bestowed upon them. They become selfish and lack a sense of gratitude. Sometimes they become stubborn and yearn about the things which may be not possible to provide at the moment. In such cases, Children become ungrateful towards their parents. These situations can be control by guided responses and trainings. Parents should not provide everything a child wants sometime. They should keep such things as a reward for doing some good deeds. For example if a child behaves well or does any meaningful activity, he/she should be rewarded with his/her favourite food, clothes or any kind of entertainment. This would gives them a sense of achievement and gratitude towards elders. In another perspective, where some people believe that choices made on everyday matters gives children a sense of decision making. It is also true that involving children in everyday chores like cooking, chosing what to cook, what to wear and what kind of entertainment to watch prepare children for future endeovers. Taking example from my aunt's daily life, she involves her children in chosing clothes to wear and advises her children for the choices they make. Children listen to her carefully and do things according to her advice. If the food of her children's choice is not available then she advises her children to chose from the available options and don't yearn about the unavailable options.
I believe that It is a good thing to let children make their own choices but in a controlled environment. This will never let children to be stubborn, entitle and ungrateful rather this will gives them gratitude, responsibility, decision making and management in available resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on whether children should make everyday choices and providing a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant, covering the risks of entitlement as well as the benefits of decision-making and responsibility. However, the development of ideas tends to lean towards a narrative or anecdotal style rather than fully exploring the broader societal implications mentioned in the prompt. For instance, the discussion on how parents can control situations shifts slightly into parenting advice rather than strictly analysing the societal impact. Nevertheless, a clear position is maintained throughout, placing this securely in the Band 6.0 to 6.5 range.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates an overall coherent arrangement, moving logically from the potential negative outcomes of making choices to the benefits, and concluding with the writer's stance. However, paragraphing is a significant issue; the entire body of the essay is compressed into one massive block of text instead of being broken down into distinct paragraphs for each viewpoint and the conclusion. This lack of appropriate paragraphing impacts the visual and structural flow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In such cases' and 'In another perspective', but referencing can occasionally be clunky, and the overall progression is hindered by the lack of clear paragraph breaks, aligning with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'entitlement', 'gratitude', 'stubborn', and 'endeavours'. There are, however, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text. Examples include 'childern' instead of children, 'control' instead of controlled, 'chosing' instead of choosing, and 'entitle' instead of entitled. Furthermore, collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'yearn about the things'. While these lexical errors do not seriously impede communication, they restrict the score to Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at conditional structures and relative clauses, such as 'If the food of her children's choice is not available then she advises her children to chose...'. There are, however, frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout, including tense inconsistencies ('A child will be starting to believe'), passive voice errors ('These situations can be control'), and incorrect preposition usage. Although communication is rarely impeded and the meaning generally remains clear, the density of grammatical errors prevents the response from achieving a higher band.
