Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The student has failed to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping at only 168 words. Due to this severe under-length, the development of ideas is significantly curtailed. While the response does attempt to discuss both views regarding children's choices and gives a personal stance (e.g., 'I am firmly convinced that allowing individuals to make their decision own represent more compelling and prigmatic viewpoint'), the arguments remain underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting examples. For instance, the first body paragraph briefly mentions that children who make their own decisions 'may encounter substantial difficulties' and 'can never felt other thoughts', but these points are not fully extended. Consequently, this heavily penalises the task achievement score to Band 4.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some organisational structure, attempting an introduction, two body viewpoints, and basic cohesive markers such as 'In the contemporary word', 'From my standpoint', 'On one hand', and 'In the other hand'. However, paragraphing is poorly executed, with the second body paragraph jammed together and under-developed. Furthermore, referencing and logical progression are frequently faulty; for example, the shift from discussing children to 'a person' and back lacks smooth transitional flow. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or mechanical, such as 'In the other hand' instead of 'On the other hand'. These issues align closely with the Band 5 descriptor, reflecting some organisation but lacking clear overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range attempted is limited and hindered by frequent word choice and spelling errors. Examples of basic errors include 'word' instead of 'world', 'given' instead of 'giving', 'opt' instead of 'choose', 'self indulgent' lacking a hyphen, 'prigmatic' instead of 'pragmatic', and 'decision own' instead of 'own decisions'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'meticulously examine' and 'self indulgent', but the persistent inaccuracies in spelling and collocation place the lexical resource firmly at Band 5.0, as these noticeable errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Grammatically, the text demonstrates a very limited range of structures with frequent basic and complex errors that impede clear communication. Examples of grammatical errors include 'given children the freedom' (incorrect participle form), 'other believes' (subject-verb agreement error), 'when the children started making of their own decisions may' (malformed clause structure), and 'dose not have sympathy'. Complex sentence attempts are frequently faulty and fraught with punctuation and word-order issues. Because errors are frequent and pervasive throughout the short text, the performance fits the Band 4.5 descriptors.
