Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Generally, there are two different opinions on the choices made by kids for daily choices. The first group argues that being independent in choices makes them selfish. While, the other community allows them to decide openly about thier wishes. I respect both opinions and give my remarks on it by staying neutral.

First, let us talk about the narrative which does not bound youth in making day to day tasks. These kind of people want thier kids to decide thier meals, outfits and entertainment independently. It is believed, thier long term decision making will be enhance by doing so. In practical, decision making is very important. These kind of parents believe if youth is able to analyze and decide things critically from the young days, thier contribution in society is vital.

To move forward to second opinion, these people want thier children dependent on them to some extent. This appraoch is not bad or negative. These type of parents consider this dependency as form of obedience. That want control on kids in some matters so that thier children learn to adjust in the society. They argue that society is made up of different kinds of people and community

. To make the society healthy, one should be able to adjust with other. If kids are stuborn in daily choices they cannot make thier thoughts flexible and will not be able to handle criticism and others ideas. These parents want thier youth to be gentle and prone to ideas.

In conclusion, I respect both ideas and my views are neutral about them

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both views regarding children making their own choices, discussing both the perspective that it fosters independence and the counterview that it maintains healthy social boundaries and obedience. However, the student's own position remains entirely neutral ('I respect both opinions and give my remarks on it by staying neutral'), which prevents full development of a clear, well-supported personal stance as required by the prompt. While the arguments are generally relevant, they remain somewhat superficial and lack specific, well-developed examples or extension. The response covers all parts of the task at a minimally acceptable level, but the lack of a clear personal viewpoint limits the overall task response quality. This aligns best with Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, showing some basic organisation. However, overall progression is hindered by awkward paragraphing, a stray floating sentence (' . To make the society healthy...'), and repetitive introductory transitional phrases such as 'First, let us talk about...' and 'To move forward to second opinion'. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate or mechanical. Referencing is also weak in places, with unclear pronoun usage such as 'That want control on kids'. While the text can be followed overall, the structural and cohesive flaws place this performance firmly at Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited and repetitive vocabulary that is minimally adequate for the task. Words like 'choices', 'kids', 'society', and 'opinion' are repeated excessively throughout the response. There are frequent spelling errors ('thier' instead of 'their', 'appraoch', 'stuborn') and inappropriate word choices or word forms, such as 'decision making will be enhance' (instead of enhanced) and 'prone to ideas' (which is not a standard collocation in this context). While the meaning is generally clear despite these issues, the range of vocabulary lacks flexibility and precision, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as missing subject-verb agreement or incorrect verb forms ('That want control', 'if youth is able', 'their long term decision making will be enhance'). Sentences often lack smooth integration of clauses, and punctuation errors are noticeable. While basic communication is maintained and the reader can understand the general points, the frequency of errors causes some difficulty and prevents the essay from reaching Band 6.0, marking it at Band 5.0.
