Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many individuals claims that premission in selection of daily basic needs for example cusion, wearing and in fun activities leads to younger selfish and think about for their ownself. On the other hand, certain members of society belives that it is benifical for the better growth and success of the children. i agree with both sides of the statement because decision making makes a child strong and sure about hisself it has also disadvatages such as child do not give importance to other people opinion and always think about hisself

Firstly,if a child allow to make a decision about what he want to eat or what we want to wear and how to get his self entertained then it build confidence and sure what he wants in life.It also help in to chosse a perfossion for his career. For example, when i was child i get a chance to select my subjects according to my interest in medical .Now, i become a pathologist and i am sure about my professional life and it boosts up my confidence.

Secondly, there are also drawbacks of allowing children to make their decisions at early age such as child get selfish they do not respect the other's opinion. They do not value the prospective of his parents and siblings which leads to overconfidience. The moral character of a child highly affected by the ovverconfidence. For example, In 2008. a research on the mental health of children were conducted in Pakistan, Narowal which showed the children who have more smart and confident than their age number they had not enjoy their childhood time.

In the conculsion, my opinion is that excess of everything is bad. Children should allow to chosse their basic needs according to their interest but also teach them how to respect others. They should also value the opinion of hisfsmily siblings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both views required by the prompt regarding whether children should make everyday choices and whether this fosters selfishness or independence. You present a clear position in the introduction stating that you agree with both sides, noting both the benefits of building confidence and the potential drawbacks of narcissism. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on drawbacks mentions that children 'get selfish' and lack respect for parents, but the supporting example regarding a research study in Pakistan is vaguely connected and lacks precise analytical depth. Despite these minor under-developments, all parts of the prompt are covered, and a coherent stance is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an overall logical arrangement. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits and the drawbacks. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. There are numerous referencing errors, such as using 'hisfsmily siblings' or 'hisfslf' and 'hisself' instead of standard pronouns, which disrupts the flow. Additionally, transitional markers are basic, and some sentences lack smooth transitions, making the progression of ideas a bit jerky at times. These issues place the response firmly in Band 5, as referencing is not always clear and cohesion mechanisms are sometimes inaccurate or awkward.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and contains numerous spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impede smooth communication. Examples of non-standard forms include 'premission', 'cusion' (likely meaning cuisine or clothes), 'benifical', 'perfossion', and 'conculsion'. While you attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'pathologist' and 'overconfidence', the frequent spelling mistakes ('ovverconfidence', 'chosse') and awkward collocations ('eat or what we want to wear') restrict the lexical score. The vocabulary is adequate to convey the basic message, but the high density of errors prevents it from reaching Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures such as conditional and relative clauses (e.g., 'if a child allow to make a decision...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text, featuring frequent errors in verb forms, voice, and agreement, such as 'child allow to make' instead of 'a child is allowed', 'i get a chance' instead of 'I got a chance', and 'research... were conducted' instead of 'was conducted'. Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and uncapitalized pronouns. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, aligning with Band 5.
