Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern world, children are independent they do everything on their own. Some people think that allowing children to make their own choices on everday matters is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their wishes while, others argue that that it is important for childern to make decisions about matters that affects them. Ibelieve that that children should make decision about matters that affects them. This essay will discuss both points of view.

To commence with, opponents think that that allowing children to make their own choices on everday matters is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. To elaborate this, they are narrow minded, they want that children should do everthing when the elder allow them. They think that by doing this the children remain in their control. Sometime time they were right but this have bad impacts on their life. For instance when they become elder, they may be unablr to take any decision about thier life because they have fear if they fail what will happen. As a result they do not any decision of their life confidently.

On the other side, the oppenents believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.

To explain this, they are right, the children who make their own decision of life they become cofident. For example, if children choose those subjects which they like they work hard and get good grades on the other hand if they are force to choose those subjects which they do not like they raed only these but shows no intrest as a result they may fail.

I believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them, this will give them more confidence and make them a good citizen, whose not only do right thing for herself but also guide others.

In conclusion, the children who take their own choices on everyday day matters is not likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. This make them a person who knnow which is good or bad for them. THEY DO NOT REL

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether children should make everyday choices and providing a clear personal opinion. The writer establishes a position in the introduction and maintains it throughout the essay, concluding by reaffirming this stance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the arguments regarding confidence versus fear of failure are stated rather than fully extended with deep elaboration. While the main points are relevant, the reasoning tends to be somewhat superficial and general, which places the response securely in the Band 6 territory according to the task response descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents an overall coherent arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate the opposing viewpoints and the writer's opinion. However, the use of cohesive devices is frequently mechanical and repetitive, with phrases like 'To commence with', 'To elaborate this', and 'To explain this' dominating the structure. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the text ends abruptly with an incomplete sentence ('THEY DO NOT REL'), which disrupts the flow of the conclusion. Progression is visible, but the mechanical nature of the cohesion and the abrupt ending cap the score at Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts such as 'independent', 'narrow minded', and 'confident'. However, there are numerous spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'everday' instead of 'everyday', 'childern', 'affects' instead of 'affect', 'unablr', 'thier', and 'oppenents' used to describe proponents in the third paragraph. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they are noticeable and detract from the overall quality. The vocabulary lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands, making a Band 5.5 appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'matters that affects them', 'whose not only do right thing'), punctuation, and sentence boundary errors, such as comma splices and run-on sentences ('I believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them, this will give them...'). Additionally, there are structural issues such as missing articles ('take any decision about thier life'). Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, the grammar aligns with Band 5.0.
