Student answer (Band 6.0)
There are multiple perspectives on wether children should be given the freedom of choice on everyday matters or not. A number of people believe that if children are allowed to make decisions for themselves, it would result in a society of self-centered individuals. In contrast some people are of opinion that it is essential for children to make their own choices in everday regards such as attire, food or entertainment. This essay discusses both views in details and at the end my personal opinion is stated.
Some people states that children are not psychologically mature. Therefore, if they are given this freedom of choice, it would lead to a mindset that life would always provide them with multiple choices. Furthermore, this would lead to the formation of habits where children always choses to fulfil their own desires. Consequently, if they are given the opportunity to chose between fulfiling a personal desire or sacrifise for the betterment of the society; they would chose themselves over others. For instance, such children would always choose to buy a dress or food item that they like, regardless of the consideration if their parents could afford it or not. Thus, if all children are brought up in this way, it would lead to a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes.
On the other hand some people believe that giving children the freedom to choose makes them more independent. They are more self-aware and are able to make their own decisions when they grow up. In addition, recent research ellaborates that such children are more confident than others. These statistics futher explains that as these children have this habit of making their own decisions, they trust their own actions and reasoning. They understand that their every action lead to a reaction. For instance, if children are given a specific amount of money and they fredom to choose what they want to buy. They will understand to prioritize their needs over desires. In addition a sense of responsibility would be developed.
In my perspective children should be given the freedom to chopse their own clothes, food or type od media they want to consume. It would lead to them becoming self-aware and more independent.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the risk of creating a selfish society versus the benefits of fostering independence—and clearly states their own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant and extended, such as the example of children choosing items regardless of parental affordability to illustrate the first view, and the connection between autonomy and decision-making confidence for the second view. However, there is a tendency to slightly over-generalise and some supporting points could be further developed with deeper analysis. Overall, the response meets the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 7, but due to minor limitations in depth, a Band 6.5 is appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and the conclusion logically. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', and 'On the other hand' are used to signpost the progression of ideas. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive in sentence openings (e.g., 'Some people states...', 'In addition...'). Paragraph organisation is clear, but logical transitions between sentences within the second body paragraph could be smoother. This level of cohesion and logical sequencing aligns comfortably with a Band 6.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common items such as 'psychologically mature', 'self-centered individuals', and 'prioritize their needs'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'wether' instead of 'whether', 'everday' instead of 'everyday', 'choses' instead of 'choose', 'fulfiling' instead of 'fulfilling', 'sacrifise' instead of 'sacrifice', 'ellaborates' instead of 'elaborates', 'futher' instead of 'further', 'fredom' instead of 'freedom', 'chopse' instead of 'choose', and 'od' instead of 'of'. These lexical errors and mechanical slips prevent the vocabulary score from reaching higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at conditional structures and relative clauses (e.g., 'if children are allowed to make decisions for themselves, it would result in...'). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'Some people states' instead of 'Some people state', and tense or form errors like 'their every action lead' instead of 'leads'. Punctuation is also faulty in places, such as semicolon misuse ('society; they would chose themselves'). Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, placing the grammar performance firmly within the Band 6 category.
