Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that if people allowed their children to make their own choices on everyday matters this will likely result in a society of indiviuals who only think about their own wishes. Moreever some people believe that it is crucial for children to make decisions about matters that affect them. I completely agree with the view that the children should be supervised as they are like sponge they absorb quickly what they leran and what they are allowed to do.

The primary reason why supervision is important and they should not be allowed to make their own choices on everyday matter is that childrens are still evolving in the society and there are many things new being introduced to them daily so they have a new perspective everday of things that influence their choices to matters. So by guiding them earlier will be more benefical for them as they will get it in their future that why parents made choices on our behalf. For example in early day the childern may get intrested in computer games and indulge in them at uncontrolled manner, so parents could make a choice to limit his time or divert his intrest on other activities thus making choice on his behalf. These will ultimately be benefical for childern future as parents always think about their child future.

On the other it is argued that it is important for the children that they make decisions about some particular matters affecting them like their habbits and intrests. This could be somewhat useful as he could get a head start in that area that will boost his creativity and intrest in that particular area. For example if a children is showing intrest in arts from early in his childhood his parents could give him the right equipments and training that will greatly enhance his potential and ultimately be benefical in the future.

In conclusion, i greatly support the idea that the children should be supervised and should be guided in making decisions that effect their everyday matters but in some areas like their habbits and intrests that are more personal to them should be allowed by parents to take their opinion as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on children making everyday decisions and providing a clear personal opinion. The writer establishes a definite stance in the introduction and maintains it throughout the essay, leaning towards the importance of adult supervision. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly repetitive and lacks depth in places. For instance, the discussion on computer games provides a relevant example, but the reasoning is somewhat generalized rather than fully extended. While the main arguments are clear and directly relevant to the task, the support could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. Overall, the prompt requirements are adequately fulfilled with a clear, coherent position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the arguments for supervision versus the benefits of independent decision-making. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'The primary reason why', 'For example', and 'In conclusion'. However, some cohesive ties are mechanical or occasionally faulty, such as 'On the other' (missing the word 'hand') and repetitive referencing. Additionally, paragraph transitions could be smoother to elevate the logical flow. Despite these minor lapses, the structure is easy to follow and logically organized.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'perspective', 'indulge', 'uncontrolled manner', and 'divert his interest'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'indiviuals', 'Moreever', 'leran', 'benefical', 'childerns', 'intrest', 'equipments', and 'effect' instead of 'affect'. While these errors do not impede communication, their frequency prevents the essay from achieving a higher band. The use of collocation is occasionally awkward, such as 'in early day' instead of 'at an early age'. A wider variety of precise academic vocabulary is needed for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ability to construct multi-clause sentences, such as 'The primary reason why supervision is important and they should not be allowed to make their own choices on everyday matter is that childrens are still evolving...' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement ('childerns are', 'matter is'), article usage, and missing prepositions. Run-on sentences and punctuation slips are common, such as the lack of commas after introductory phrases and lower-case 'i' usage. These errors require some effort from the reader to parse meaning, placing the response firmly in the band 5.5 range.
