Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on every matters. but some people think that children should not be allowed to make decisions. but in my opinion children should be allowed to make small decisions of their lives but not big decisions.
On first side, some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices and own decisions on eveydsay can be harmful for them. in this way children become selfish so children shouls not be allowe to make their decisions by self. for example, if a children is allowed to make their own choices in every day matters such as to buy clothes,to take food and to seek their own entertainment by self they can become selfish and they donot see the ambition and needs of other childs.
on other hand, some people believe that children should be allowed to take their own decisions by self it makes them independent and gives them power to take stand in life. also, it gives power to children to took challenges in life and they can solve their own problems by themselves. it also make them independent in the way to choose things which is better suited for them.
in conclusion, children should not be allowed to make their big decisions by them selves they only shoud be allowed to make their small decisions of life. because if you will give them totally freedom in their early ages they will become selfish and will not take you seriously. if any will interfare in their decisions later. they will feel bad for this. so from ages, children should make their little decisions by themselves, not big decisions of their lives so that they should be a little dependent of parents for their serious life decisions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both views regarding children making everyday choices and gives a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument about children becoming selfish is mentioned multiple times without sufficient extension or varied supporting examples. Furthermore, the introduction is fragmented and fails to properly set up the essay structure, reading more like a collection of disjointed sentences rather than a cohesive opening statement. The conclusion attempts to summarise the writer's stance, but the reasoning remains basic. Consequently, the response aligns best with Band 5, as the task is addressed, but the ideas lack full development and clear progression throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
Paragraphing is attempted, with distinct sections for the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, the internal organisation within paragraphs is weak. Sentences often lack appropriate cohesive ties, and punctuation errors (such as missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and missing spaces after full stops) disrupt the flow of the text. For example, phrases like 'On first side' and 'on other hand' demonstrate unnatural phrasing and inadequate transitions. There is also a heavy reliance on repetitive sentence openings and basic referencing, which hinders the overall progression of ideas. This level of organisation corresponds to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the presence of paragraphing and basic directional markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on simple words like 'choices', 'decisions', 'children', and 'selfish'. There are also several word-formation and collocation errors, such as 'every matters', 'eveydsay', 'shouls not be allowe', and 'interfare'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts are marred by inaccurate spelling and word choice. While the meaning is generally retrievable despite the lexical inaccuracies, the limited variety and lack of precision restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is severely limited, consisting mostly of simple and error-prone complex structures. The text contains numerous basic grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('a children is allowed', 'childs'), incorrect preposition use ('in their early ages'), and structural fragments. Punctuation and capitalization are poorly controlled throughout the essay, with many sentences lacking initial capital letters or containing run-on clauses linked improperly with commas or conjunctions. Because frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and simple structures dominate, the grammar performance sits firmly at Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.
