Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argue that giving freedom to children in making their own choices on daily matter will make them selfish, while other people believe that it will improve the decision making abilities of children. I fully agree to the later opinion.
On the one hand, it is widely believe that by allowing children to make their own decisions will impact negatively on their personal development, as they may become selfish and reluctant about others feelings. They will ignore the feelings of others and they will become arrogant about other person emotions. This will lead to total isolation from community. For instance, individuals who always make their own choices, finds it much difficult to consult with other people around him, due to this they always remain in their comfor zone.
On the other hand, it is also important for children to learn about making their own decisions rather than relying on others, as it will imporve their decision-making ability and it will allow them to become independent in their lives. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on children making everyday choices and presents a clear personal position in favour of independence. However, some ideas are under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding children becoming arrogant and isolated lacks thorough explanation and specific support. Furthermore, an important length check reveals that the response contains 248 words, falling just two words short of the mandatory 250-word minimum, which impacts the overall completeness of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear organisational structure, dividing the arguments logically into separate paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to signal shifts between ideas, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. Nevertheless, referencing is occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in the phrase 'due to this they always remain in their comfor zone', where pronoun referencing could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's basic points. The student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'critical thinking', 'problem-solving', and 'independent', but this is accompanied by some noticeable errors in word form and spelling, including 'imporve' and 'crtical-thinking'. Additionally, there are minor lexical inaccuracies, such as 'daily matter' instead of 'daily matters' or 'everyday matters', though these errors generally do not impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying on a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. There are frequent errors in grammar, particularly with verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'It is often argue', 'widely believe', and 'agree to the later opinion'. Attempts at complex sentences are sometimes faulty, and minor issues with pluralisation appear throughout the text. However, these grammatical errors rarely impede overall communication, allowing the reader to follow the main arguments.
