Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 101 words. Because the text stops abruptly after just two short paragraphs, the task is only addressed partially. While the writer attempts to introduce the topic and state an opinion ('i strongly agree withe the'), the arguments are extremely limited and under-developed. The discussion of both views required by the prompt is incomplete, as the second viewpoint and the supporting arguments are not properly explored before the text cuts off. To reach a higher band, the response must meet the word count requirement, present a fully developed discussion of both sides, and maintain a clear, extended position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The text demonstrates some basic organization with an introductory paragraph and a second paragraph beginning with 'On the one hand'. However, there is no clear overall progression because the essay cuts off prematurely. Cohesive devices are minimal and mechanical, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph, and referencing is unclear in phrases like 'these days these people think'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph remains unfinished. To improve cohesion, the writer needs to ensure ideas are logically sequenced across a complete essay, using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive ties and clear referencing to connect sentences and paragraphs smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, featuring basic terms such as 'people', 'children', 'food', and 'clothes'. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'every matters' instead of 'every matter' or 'all matters', 'Other oppose this' instead of 'Others oppose this', and 'matter effect them' instead of 'matters affect them'. Spelling and word formation issues are also present, such as 'withe' instead of 'with'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their vocabulary range, incorporate less common lexical items with greater precision, and pay closer attention to word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on simple sentence structures and faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that impede communication, such as missing articles, incorrect verb forms ('should allowing children'), and sentence fragments where thoughts are left incomplete (e.g., ending abruptly with 'withe the'). Punctuation is also neglected, with lowercase letters starting sentences like 'i strongly agree'. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of grammatical structures, ensure correct subject-verb agreement and verb complementation, and eliminate frequent basic errors.
