Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that children should be allowed to make their own choice on everyday matters while others think children just allowed to make decisions about matters that just affect them. I believe that children should be allowed to make decisions about matters that just affect them.

People who accept to allow children to make their own choice in every aspect of life believes that this thing will make their child to think just for their own which grows up an adult who will be selfish. Most of the people also think that this will make a child rude with society.

On the other hand, some people believes that children should make that decisions who's impact is just on them, not concerning with the society or other people. This will help them to learn how to make decisions in your life, without concerning others. Sometimes, your ideas and taste is not matched by others but you love it, therefore for a good mental health, it is necessary to do the things you like. If the child will not live a life as he/she wants, he/she will grow up in anxiety and stressful envirnoment which is not good for child as well as for parents.

In conclusion, it is necessary to allow children to make the decisions that just affect them. This will make them not to interupt in anyone's else life and they will just concern about their own life. Moreover, decision making is a hard thing in a life, while allowing your child to make their own decisions since childhood, teaches them how to make a decision.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views and providing a personal opinion, which keeps it relevant to the task requirements. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs where points like childhood selfishness and adult anxiety are stated simply without deep elaboration or robust examples. The position is stated at the beginning and end, though it tends to drift into repetitive statements rather than progressing logically through fully explored concepts. To reach higher levels, the writer needs to extend each argument with detailed explanations and concrete real-world illustrations rather than relying on brief, generalized assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some overall organization with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, two body viewpoints, and the conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences can feel disjointed due to mechanical and repetitive use of basic cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand' and 'Moreover.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the shifting pronouns between 'you', 'they', and 'he/she' in the third paragraph, which disrupts the thread of the argument. Improving paragraph-internal cohesion and using a wider, more natural variety of linking words would significantly enhance the overall structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring frequent repetition of fundamental words and phrases like 'everyday matters,' 'decisions,' and 'children.' There are noticeable word choice and collocation issues, such as 'accept to allow' instead of 'agree to allow' or 'make that decisions who's impact is just on them' instead of 'make decisions whose impact affects only them.' While the meaning is generally communicated, these lexical inaccuracies and the lack of less common vocabulary items restrict the range. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding word families, mastering natural collocations, and employing more precise academic terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay relies on a restricted range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence where clauses are awkwardly linked. There are frequent errors in grammar, including subject-verb agreement issues ('believes' instead of 'believe'), incorrect prepositions ('in a life' instead of 'in life'), and spelling mistakes ('envirnoment', 'interupt'). These errors occur regularly and can occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to exercise better control over basic grammatical patterns, ensure correct verb forms, and incorporate a wider variety of accurate complex sentence structures.
