Student answer (Band 6.0)
The issue of giving children freedom to make choices on day to day matters has been controvential over the years. The coming in of human rights entities has made the debate hotter. Some people believe that it is a good idea to give children a chance to make choices, while others argue that it will result in a society of people who only think of their wishes. This essay will discuss both ideas and i will give my thoughts on the issue.
Proponets believe that freedom of choice will teach the children to be autonomous at a young age. If they practice making decisions regarding their life choices they will grew up believing in themselves. This will buld up their self esteem. Studies have shown that children who starts to be independent while young tend to be good managers in the future.
Those that oppose the idea argue that, children are still growing and their thinking capacity is not fully matured hence they are likely to make wrong choices. For instance, children may not be fully aware of the nutrition contents of a particular food. They will rather go for good taste than the nutrition value. They do not care much whether they are taking the required amount of proteins or cabohydrates.Additionally, they may choose channels that are not in line with their age, this may result in broken generation.
In my opinion, I believe children should have the freedom to make choice to things that concern them in their day to day lives but it should be under parental guidance as sometimes they can make wrong decesions.
In conclusion, children should be given freedom of choice as it helps them to become autonomous.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both perspectives and give a clear personal position: children can make everyday choices, but parental guidance is needed. The examples about nutrition and age-appropriate entertainment are relevant, and the point that decision-making may build independence supports the opposing view. This fits the task because the main parts are covered, but they are not developed equally. The benefits are asserted rather than explained in detail, and the claim that independent children become “good managers” is broad and unsupported. The conclusion also repeats your position without drawing together the discussion. To strengthen the response, explain how guided choices can build responsibility while setting limits, and develop each example with a clearer link to your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. This makes the discussion easy to follow, and signposts such as “For instance,” “Additionally,” and “In conclusion” help show relationships between ideas. The progression is generally logical, though the opinion paragraph and conclusion repeat the same point rather than advancing or synthesising the discussion. Some links between claims could also be clearer: the statement about children becoming “good managers” follows the point about self-esteem without explaining the connection. To move beyond this level, use referencing and transitions more naturally, and make each paragraph build on the previous one rather than relying mainly on explicit signposting.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “autonomous,” “self esteem,” “nutrition,” and “parental guidance,” so the main ideas are communicated. However, the range and control are uneven, with noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reduce precision. Examples include “controvential,” “Proponets,” “buld,” “cabohydrates,” and “decesions.” Some phrases are also awkward or unclear, such as “the coming in of human rights entities” and “broken generation.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise expressions such as “children’s decision-making,” “nutritional value,” and “age-appropriate content” would help you express the argument clearly without relying on vague wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “If they practice making decisions … they will grew up believing in themselves” and a reason clause beginning “as sometimes they can make wrong decisions.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but some errors in verb forms, agreement, sentence boundaries, and punctuation remain. For example, “they will grew up” should use the base form after “will,” while “children who starts” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “Those that oppose the idea argue that” also has an unnecessary comma before “children,” and “choices. For instance” needs a space after the full stop. Review these patterns and proofread sentence boundaries to improve accuracy while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
