Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You give a clear opinion that children should be allowed to make decisions, and you support it with examples about choosing food, clothes and shopping. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the opposing concern—that children may become self-centred—is not explained or considered. Most of the response develops only the benefits of decision-making, while the examples repeat the same point rather than extending the discussion. To strengthen the response, explain why some people worry about children focusing only on their own wishes, then weigh that concern against the benefits and make your position clear in relation to both views. The response contains 9 words copied from the task prompt; these were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, supporting paragraphs and a conclusion, and connectors such as “Further,” “Moreover” and “In conclusion” help signal stages. However, progression is limited because the two main paragraphs largely repeat the idea that children learn decision-making, and there is no paragraph developing the opposing view. Some links between sentences are unclear: “Their opinion matters in choices taken by parents” is not connected to a specific explanation, while “This indicates” repeatedly announces a conclusion without adding a new step in the argument. Organise the body around distinct points, use each paragraph to develop one view or reason, and make references and transitions more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use relevant basic vocabulary, including “choices,” “opinion,” “decision making” and “difficulties,” so the general topic remains understandable. However, the range is narrow and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “decisions” and “choices.” There are also spelling and word-choice problems, such as “encurage's,” “Thiis,” “cheir” and “childern,” which reduce accuracy and polish. Some expressions are awkward, including “choices taken by parents” and “take decision.” Build a wider set of natural phrases for discussing independence, responsibility and self-interest, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise vocabulary would also help you explain the opposing view rather than relying on repeated general terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the meaning is generally recoverable. Some sentence patterns are controlled, for example, “Later in life when they are grown up and are young teenagers they face difficulties in making…” However, errors recur in sentence construction, articles, agreement and punctuation. For instance, “if the child if below 10 years of age” contains a duplicated verb, and “a boy who's age is 12 years” has an incorrect possessive structure. The opening also joins ideas with full stops and spacing inconsistently, while the example beginning “For example” is awkwardly punctuated. Practise accurate complex sentences with “if,” “because” and “although,” and proofread for complete clauses, articles and sentence boundaries.
