Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Plenty of indiduals carry a opinion that allowing their children to make their own choices on daily matters such as food, clothes and entertainment can result in a society of masses who only think about thir own interests. on the otherhand there are individuals who tend to think it is important for children to make decisions about matters effecting them,In the given paragraphs i will discuss both opinions with relevant answers..

First of all many individuals try to help their children and for them to many options can result them in indivisualism they worry is right there some children who become picky but i believe choices does not effect children it,s rather nature of indivisual restricting their choices often lead to bad behaviour for example my uncle and aunt restricted my cousin to choices he was unable to make choices in clothes of food only his parent provided their equipment but later in life as he grew he started having negative opinion for his parents he never forgot his experience with the family resulting in conflict with family children always seek authority.

Some do believe children should be granted to make their on decisions that effect their life like academic path or school of their desire giving children authort to choose certain aspects of life is great iniciative as parents should not intervene in important matters of children if a kid want to become doctor but parents restrict that would effect the child in many aspect in near future so allowing children make decision in matters that effect their life is betterment..

Overall i firmly believe parent should not intervene in childrens choices specially in food, clothes, etc there should be transparency between both but restriction can never provide a solution and it might effect childs well being

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and give a clear personal preference in the conclusion: you argue that parents should not restrict everyday choices. The example of your cousin also supports the concern that excessive control can damage family relationships. However, the discussion is uneven and only partly developed. The first view is presented mainly through a personal example, while the second is illustrated with a hypothetical child who wants to become a doctor; explain more fully why age-appropriate decision-making benefits children and how it can be balanced with parental guidance. Your opening says you will discuss both opinions, but the position is not clearly established until the conclusion. A more explicit thesis and fuller explanation of both sides would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs addressing the views, and a concluding opinion. This gives the reader a basic route through the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow, especially in the first body paragraph, where the point about children becoming picky shifts quickly to your cousin’s experience and then to a broad claim about children seeking authority. Linking phrases such as “First of all” and “Overall” are used, but connections between individual ideas are often unclear or mechanical. Several sentences run together, and the conclusion repeats the preference without drawing the discussion together. Use one clear main point per paragraph, then explain and illustrate it in a logical sequence with precise referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “choices,” “decisions,” “restrict,” “academic path,” and “conflict,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning harder to follow. For example, “result them in individualism” does not express the intended relationship naturally, and “granted to make their on decisions” is unclear. Spelling errors such as “indiduals,” “thir,” and “authort” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully. Replacing repeated general terms with expressions such as “parental guidance,” “personal autonomy,” and “age-appropriate decisions” would help you express the ideas more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional reasoning in “if a kid want to become doctor but parents restrict that,” and you use clauses to explain consequences. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. Examples include “allowing their children … can result,” where agreement is inconsistent with the plural subject, and “choices does not effect children,” where the verb form is incorrect. Articles and sentence boundaries are also problematic, as in “become doctor” and the long, comma-linked sentences in the first body paragraph. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation.
