Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

There has been an ongoing debate about whether children's should be made independent in choosing their daily life choices or bounding them is a good option. While some people believe that child's should be allowed to choose whatever they want, whereas others believe that parents should handle them with their choices. In my opinion, I believe that child's parents should take the responsibility to track their child's decisions, because it offers several important benefits.

The primary reason why some people support the view of keeping children's independent is that they would learn to decide on their own. This is mainly because children's will choose what they want, and will get their desire things. For example, a child wants some modern jeans to wear, he will get it and may get inner peace. Therefore, it is understandable why many people prefer this point of view.

Another compelling viewpoint is by those who advocate that child's should must be kept under inspection regarding their choice, often due to the fact that they are immature and may get wrong choices. This can be attributed to that immature minds doesn't know about the pros and cons of his or her choices. For instance, a child may get a cold drink in winters, which can lead to a cough later. As a result, wrong choices by a child with undergrowing mind highlights the validity of this stance.

in conclusion, although both views have their valid arguments, I firmly believe that keeping a check on child's choices in getting their demanded things is more practical and beneficial in the long run. So from my perspective, analyzing children's choice seems more convincing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both perspectives and state a clear preference for parental oversight, so the response is relevant to the task. The first view is supported by the idea that children learn to decide independently, and the jeans example gives it some illustration. However, the discussion is only partial: the example mainly shows getting something desired, rather than explaining how everyday choices might foster selfishness or how independence could be balanced with responsibility. The opposing view is also quite narrowly developed through the cold-drink example, which does not fully establish the broader risks of children making decisions. To strengthen the response, explain both views more fully and connect your examples directly to the question of children’s autonomy and its effects on society.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “The primary reason” and “For example” help signal the development of ideas. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward, particularly “While some people believe … whereas others believe,” which combines two contrasting structures. The conclusion repeats the position without adding much synthesis, and references such as “this point of view” are not always precise about which argument is meant. Improve progression by making each paragraph’s main claim explicit, using contrast markers accurately, and linking each example back to the paragraph’s central idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “independent,” “immature,” “pros and cons,” and “responsibility.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less natural. Examples include “daily life choices,” “get their desire things,” “kept under inspection,” and “under inspection regarding their choice.” Repetition of “choice,” “child,” and “believe” also limits flexibility. Aim to use more precise phrases for decision-making and parental guidance, and check whether words naturally combine in English. More accurate collocations would make your arguments clearer and help you express distinctions between independence, supervision, and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “While,” “because,” and “which,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in examples such as “children’s will choose,” “child’s should must be kept,” and “immature minds doesn’t know.” There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence construction, as in “a child wants some modern jeans to wear, he will get it,” where the pronoun reference and clause connection are faulty. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the main ideas remain understandable. Practise forming accurate subject–verb patterns and joining clauses with appropriate punctuation; then proofread for singular/plural agreement and unnecessary auxiliary verbs.
