IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters (such as food, clothes and entertainment) is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
People hold different opinions regarding the importance of children's decision making. While some believe that making own decision will lead them to think only about their wishes, others argue that, making decision matters if it is related to them.
One of the strongest arguments in favour of making own decison is children may believe that their opinions are more important than their parents and other people, a perspective that has become increasingly important in the contemporary society. This is primarily because if they are allowed to do whatever they want, they may start believing that they deserve everything they want. Consequently, they may focus primarily on their own needs and desires rather than considering how their decision effects others. Moreover, children becomes reluctant to the rules and regulations of the society or respect their parents and teachers as the think they are grown up enough to live lives in their own way. They most of the time choose decisions for their own benefits and do not think about other individuals.
On the other hand, one of the most convincing reasons supporting this idea is, making own decisions makes children responsible at early age, an approach capable of making meaningful outcomes. This is primarily because they do not have to be dependent on elders for choosing options for them, which makes them more confident and self-steemed. Moreover, making own deciaions will encourage them to take any decision at under pressure situation and helps them to be a good decision maker. For instance, if the children and capable of making decision they will become good leaders for the nation in future.
In conclusion, both viewpoints have valid arguments. However, I believe that children should get the opportunities to make their own decision, while considering the effects of thier desions on other people living in the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a clear opinion in the conclusion: children should make their own decisions while considering their effects on others. The two body paragraphs also present relevant reasons, including the risk of self-centredness and the benefits of responsibility and confidence. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that children who choose for themselves may become disrespectful of parents and teachers would be stronger with a specific explanation or example. Likewise, the leadership point is brief and does not show how everyday choices build leadership skills. Develop these ideas with a concrete example and clearer links to the question to make the discussion more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Consequently,” “Moreover,” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the progression within paragraphs is not always smooth. The first body paragraph moves from children valuing their opinions to disregarding rules, but the link between these claims could be made more explicit. The phrase “supporting this idea” is also unclear because it does not specify which view it refers to. Use more precise referencing and explain how each supporting point follows from the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “needs and desires,” “rules and regulations,” “responsible,” and “confident.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt more formal expressions such as “meaningful outcomes.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “decison,” “decisions” misspelled as “deciaions,” and “self-steemed” where “self-esteem” is intended. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “take any decision at under pressure situation” and “choose decisions for their own benefits.” Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your argument sound more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional clauses such as “if they are allowed to do whatever they want” and a relative clause in “a perspective that has become increasingly important.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “children becomes” should be “children become,” and “as the think” should be “as they think.” The sentence beginning “Moreover, making own decisions will encourage them” shifts from “will encourage” to “helps,” creating inconsistent verb forms. There are also issues with articles and sentence construction, as in “at under pressure situation.” Review subject–verb agreement, consistent verb forms, and article use while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
