IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters (such as food, clothes and entertainment) is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Respecting both opinions about children`s decision matter, First i will talk about people who give importance to children`s decision making habit. According to my point of view some people grow their children independent. They want their children could have the ability to take some decisions of their life by their own. so they support their children and respect their opinions in different field of life such people are making their child ready to face the harsh society facts as life is not the bed of roses. For their strength and ability to take decisions, some people support theoir child. I have so many examples related to this and my own family is also one of them who made their kids independent and now i am a university student and i travel alone and i am supporting my family financially.
On the other hand, there are so many families who does not listen opinions of there children because they think that such attentions to child made them selfish and rude but according to my point of view "Balance is necessary in every aspect of our life to be in peace and calm". Some people don`t keep balance in this way they face the bad behavior of their child.
Such parents are not doing well with their kids. Such behaviour made child fearfull and silent that causes their pchycological issues. Similarly, some child involve in bad activities as they have no one to give importance to their opinion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You discuss both perspectives and give a personal view, especially when you say that “Balance is necessary in every aspect of our life.” The example of becoming a university student, travelling alone and supporting your family financially also helps illustrate the benefits of independence. However, the response only partially develops the task: the concern that children may become self-centred is mentioned, but the reasons behind this view are not explained in detail, and your own position is not consistently stated across the essay. The response is also four words below the required minimum. To strengthen it, explain both sides more fully and give a specific example of how parents can allow choices while setting appropriate limits.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The two main paragraphs are organised around the opposing views, and signposts such as “On the other hand” help readers recognise the shift in perspective. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear: the first moves from independence to family support and then to your personal circumstances without fully connecting these points. Several ideas are repeated, including that parents support children’s decisions and that children need their opinions respected. Some linking is also awkward, as in “Similarly” before the point about children becoming involved in bad activities. Use clearer topic sentences, group related reasons together, and make the relationship between each example and the main argument explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “independent,” “opinions,” “selfish,” and “psychological issues,” and phrases such as “face the harsh society facts” show an attempt to express more complex ideas. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, which sometimes makes the reader work to understand your meaning. Examples include “decision making habit,” “give importance to,” and “bad behavior of their child.” Spelling errors such as “theoir,” “fearfull,” and “pchycological” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of phrases for discussing parental guidance, autonomy and consequences, and check spelling and natural word combinations when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences and subordinate clauses, for example, “They want their children could have the ability to take some decisions,” but these complex structures are often faulty. There are frequent problems with verb forms and agreement, as in “families who does not listen,” and with sentence boundaries and capitalisation, such as “so they support” after a full stop. Other examples include “made their kids independent” and “some child involve,” where tense or number is not controlled. These errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using clauses such as “because” and “although”; proofread for agreement, tense, articles and punctuation.
