IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters (such as food, clothes and entertainment) is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
thw paragraph illustrates the differen prespective different opinion of people in the society that allowing children to make their own choices is good while the other thinks that it is not good to allow children to make their own choices as they think that they will become the individuals who only think about their own choices their ownselves.
In my opinion the people who think that children should be allowed to make their own decicions are right their opinion matches myn opinion as i think children should be allowed to make their own choices and decicions that satisfies them as making your own decision is not a bad thing as if they make their own decisions then there will be people in future who will shape the society .
For example children should be allowed to chooose their own carrer in which field they want to go in which they are intrested as if they go in the field inwhich they are intrested they will be good at their skills and work which would be helpful for the world .As we had seen so many cases in our daily life where parents force their children to choose the career of their choice so when the childrens go insuch a profession in which they are not intrested they get mentally disturbed and after mental disturbance some students comitts suicide.
As aresult children should be allowed to make their own choices as it matters to shape the society so the people who thinks that the children who makes their own choices only think about their own wishes are wrong so they should change their prespective.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear opinion in favour of children making choices, and your career example is relevant: you explain that forced career decisions can cause distress and affect a young person’s future. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the opposing argument is only briefly mentioned in the opening. You do not explain why some people fear that children may become self-centred, such as by considering the need for limits or awareness of others. The discussion therefore addresses the prompt only partially, and the supporting ideas remain narrow and under-developed. To strengthen the response, explain each viewpoint fairly, then show how your opinion follows from weighing them against each other.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable sequence: an introduction, your opinion, a supporting example, and a concluding statement. The career example also follows naturally from your view that children should make decisions affecting their future. However, the overall progression is limited because the opposing view is not developed in a separate, reasoned section, and several ideas are packed into long sentences. Connectors such as “as” and “so” are repeated, sometimes making the relationship between claims unclear. For example, the opening repeats the idea of children making choices without establishing a clear contrast. Use distinct paragraphs for each view and conclusion, and choose linking phrases that show contrast, cause, and result precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “career,” “profession,” “society,” and “mentally disturbed,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “choices,” “decisions,” and “interested.” Frequent spelling errors—such as “prespective,” “decicions,” “carrer,” and “intrested”—also make the writing less clear and reduce control of vocabulary. Some expressions are awkward or imprecise, including “their ownselves” and “shape the society.” Build a more accurate range for discussing independence and responsibility, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise wording would help you express the two sides without relying on repeated terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect ideas in complex sentences, for example with “as” and “when,” but these structures are often faulty or difficult to follow. The opening contains a fragment-like construction, while the sentence beginning “For example children should be allowed…” runs on through several clauses without clear punctuation. There are also frequent errors in agreement and verb forms, as in “the people who thinks” and “some students comitts suicide,” as well as problems with articles and sentence boundaries. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships between ideas hard to understand. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using one clear subordinate clause at a time; check subject–verb agreement and punctuation when editing.
