Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You give a clear opinion that children should be allowed to make their own decisions, and you offer relevant reasons: they may become more mature, learn new things and rely less on others. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and your response does not explain the concern that children might become self-centred. The supporting points are mostly listed rather than developed with explanations or examples, so the discussion remains very limited. The response is also 134 words, below the required 250-word minimum, which leaves too little space to address the question fully. To improve, explain both perspectives, develop each reason, and include a relevant example before restating your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
Your main position is identifiable, and several ideas relate to it, including children becoming mature and learning to handle future situations. However, the response has no clear paragraph structure and moves through points in a long, largely unpunctuated sequence. The opening mentions the general debate but does not set out the two views, while the final sentence repeats the claim that children should decide for themselves rather than providing a developed conclusion. Connections between ideas are also limited; for example, the list of benefits is not grouped or linked to show how one leads to another. Use separate paragraphs for the opposing view, your view and the conclusion, with clear linking phrases and progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a small set of relevant words and phrases to communicate the topic, such as “make their own decision,” “freedom,” “mature” and “depend on others.” These choices make your general position understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “decision” and “kids,” and several expressions are inaccurate or unclear, including “do their won decision” and “set example for new genertation.” Spelling errors such as “belive,” “devlop” and “genertation” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider range of topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations. For instance, you could use “make choices independently,” “develop responsibility” and “future generations” to express your ideas more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You communicate your central opinion using mostly simple sentence patterns, and the reader can generally follow the intended meaning. There is an attempt to express reasons and consequences, for example, that children “will be more mature” and “can handel things in future.” However, sentence structures are very repetitive, and control of basic grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. The opening is a fragment, and the response often joins separate ideas without full stops, making relationships between clauses unclear. There are also errors in possessives and pronouns, as in “their own decision” and “his or her decision,” where the references are not consistently controlled. Practise complete sentences, accurate pronoun forms and punctuation, then add a few well-controlled complex sentences.
