Student answer (Band 6.0)
In todays life children are often left independant while making their life decisions and handling everyday matters. Some people believe that it results in a selfish individual who only prefers his or her own life while other argue that it is a beneficial practice because it is crucial for children to make their own decisions about their life factors that affect them. I believe both the practices should complement each other and this essay will discuss both arguments.
On the other hand, If the individual is left to make all their life decisions on his own, so it would make him used to the wishes he usually like to fulfill. It would eventually make him self obsessed and will result in a personality who can't accept denial on his choices. Forexample if a child is allowed to play all the time with his toys and never restricted to play with them, it will result in the failure of other productive activities of life such as studying, intellectual growth.
On the other hand, letting the children make their own life decisions make them more confident and it boosts their self esteem that helps them prospher in their lives. For instance parents letting their child helping them in their day to days life chores could eventually make the child able to care for himself and other as it will produce autonomy in his or her personality.
I believe that a child should be allowed to make the decisions regarding his or her life but their must be a check on them in order to not spoil their habits and avoid any future mishap.
In conclusion it is a appreciated that children should be allowed to make their own life decisions but in a productive way so that it could not have any detrimental affects on their personality later in future. These both practices must compliment each other in order to result in a better person.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both perspectives and give a clear overall view: children should make decisions, but with parental oversight. The examples about unrestricted play and helping with household chores are relevant and show why both freedom and limits matter. This covers the task, but some points are less fully developed than others. The first example focuses on play and studying rather than explaining more broadly how everyday choices might encourage selfishness; the second could clarify how age-appropriate decisions build responsibility. Your position is clearest in the final body paragraph, while the introduction says the approaches should “complement each other” without yet explaining how. Develop each claim with a fuller explanation and keep your opinion explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting contrasting views, your opinion, and a conclusion. The examples are placed with the relevant arguments, so the reader can follow the main progression. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical: both opposing paragraphs begin “On the other hand,” even though the first introduces the contrasting concern and the second presents the other side. Some references are also unclear, such as “it” in “it would make him used to the wishes,” where the reader must infer what “it” refers to. The conclusion repeats the idea that the practices should complement each other rather than adding a concise synthesis. Use more precise transitions and explicit references to connect ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “self-esteem,” “autonomy,” “productive activities,” and “detrimental effects.” These choices help express the main ideas, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “self obsessed” is better expressed as “self-centred,” “prospher” is misspelled, and “day to days life chores” is an unnatural phrase. “Life decisions” is also repeated where “everyday choices” or “age-appropriate decisions” would be more precise. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more flexible and convincing without needing unnecessarily complex words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if a child is allowed to play…” and clauses explaining consequences. The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “other argue” needs a plural verb, while “letting the children make their own life decisions make them” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The sentence beginning “If the individual is left…” also combines “if” with “so” awkwardly, and “their must be a check” uses the wrong form of “there.” Review agreement and clause structure, and punctuate sentence openings consistently. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen your varied sentence attempts.
