Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that allowing children should not be allowed to make their own choices because they may become selfish. However other think that children should make decision about things that affect their lives. In my opinion, children should be allowed to make simple choices, but parents should guide them.

On the other hand, allowing children to make every decision can have some disadvantages. children are young and do not always understand what is a good or bad for them. For example, they may want to eat fast food every day or spend too much money on toys and games. If parents always agree with their wishes, children may become selfish and may only think about their own happiness. Therefore, parents should teach them the importance of discipline, sharing and respecting others.

On the other hand, I believe that allowing children to make their own decisions is important for their development. In helps them become independent. It helps them becomes independent and confident for instance parents can allow their children to choose their clothes, hobbies or favorite books. These small decisions help children understand their likes and dislikes. Moreover, when children make mistakes. they can learn from their experiences and make better decision in the future.

In my opinion, parents should find a balances between these two views. Children should have the freedom to make decision about everyday matters, but parents should guide them when making important choices. For example, children can choose what sport they want to play, while parents can help them decide how much time they should spend studying and playing. This approach can help children become responsible for adults.

In conclusion, children should be allowed to make their own choices with proper guidance from their parents.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and give a consistent opinion: children can make everyday choices, while parents should guide more important decisions. The examples about fast food, toys, clothing and sport are relevant, and the conclusion restates your position. This meets the task well, with some elements developed more fully than others: the risks of unrestricted choice are explained through possible selfishness, while the benefits of decision-making are mainly listed as independence, confidence and learning from mistakes. To strengthen the response further, explain how these experiences build responsibility or consideration for others, and develop one example in more detail. The required length is met; eight words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from the opposing view to the benefits of choice, then to your own balanced position and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a clear central purpose, and examples help the reader follow the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. Both main body paragraphs begin with “On the other hand,” even though the second introduces a supporting view rather than a direct contrast. The sentence “In helps them become independent. It helps them becomes independent” repeats an idea and interrupts progression. Use a wider range of accurate links, remove repeated points, and make references such as “these small decisions” clearly connect to the preceding examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough relevant vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “selfish,” “discipline,” “independent,” “confident” and “responsible.” These choices help express the main ideas, but the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “make decision” and “their own choices.” There are also word-form or collocation problems, including “a balances” and “responsible for adults,” which make some expressions unnatural. Aim for more precise phrases such as “make decisions,” “strike a balance” and “become responsible adults.” Vary repeated wording and check that each chosen expression fits its context; this would make the argument more fluent and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If parents always agree with their wishes, children may become selfish” and a contrast using “while.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make sentences awkward. For example, “allowing children should not be allowed” has a faulty structure, while “It helps them becomes independent” has incorrect verb agreement and form. There are also errors in articles, plurals and punctuation, as in “make a balances” and “when children make mistakes. they can learn.” Practise accurate verb patterns and sentence boundaries, then proofread for agreement and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
