Student answer (Band 5.0)
Children nowadays making their own choices which is nice thing to learn something or to get knowledge about something. Just as a coin has two sides the children making their own choices also has its advantages and disadvantages. I strongly believe that the advantages of the children making own choices outweigh the disadvantages. In the essay further i will elobrate on the advantages and disadvantages of the children making own choices for everyday matters and coclude with my logical opinion.
The advantages of children making their own choices on everyday matters are: they get to know about the good and bad things about the life, they get to know where they are making wrong choices, they get to know what is best for them, their parents don't need to take stress, their parents get to know how good their children to make their own choices, if children make wrong choice then he/she get to know about their mistake and they will be more careful in future while taking big decision in life.
The disadvantages of children making their own choices on everyday matters are children need to face the problem if they make wrong choice, if they make wrong choices sometimes their parents has to face problem.
As per my opinion I feel that there are advantages of allowing children to make their own choices because if they make their own they will get to know what is best for them and if they make wrong decision they get to learn something or they get to know where they are making mistakes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear personal preference for allowing children to make choices, and you mention relevant benefits such as learning from mistakes and becoming more careful with future decisions. You also include a paragraph on disadvantages, so both views are present. However, the discussion is only partial: the opposing view is reduced to children or parents facing problems, without explaining why unrestricted choice might encourage self-centred behaviour, as the prompt specifically suggests. Several benefits are listed rather than explained with examples, and the conclusion repeats earlier points instead of drawing the discussion together. To strengthen the response, address the concern about selfishness directly, distinguish everyday choices from major decisions, and develop each main point with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a final statement of your opinion. This makes the main direction understandable. However, progression within paragraphs is limited because ideas are mostly presented as lists, particularly in the advantages paragraph, rather than being grouped and explained in a logical sequence. The repeated phrase “children making their own choices” also makes the writing feel repetitive, while the opening’s “two sides” framing and the final paragraph do not create a strong link between the two views. Use clearer topic sentences, then explain one or two points with examples; vary referencing with phrases such as “this independence” or “such decisions” to make connections smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “advantages,” “disadvantages,” “wrong choices,” and “future,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “make their own choices” and “get to know.” Some word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “take stress,” “face the problem,” and “big decision in life.” There are also spelling errors in “elobrate” and “coclude,” which reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of topic-specific expressions and check spelling carefully. More precise wording for independence, responsibility, consequences, and parental guidance would help you express the two sides more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including conditional ideas such as “if they make wrong choice then…” This shows an effort to explain consequences. However, the range remains limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “Children nowadays making their own choices” needs a finite verb, while “their parents has to face problem” has agreement and singular/plural errors. In “how good their children to make their own choices,” the clause structure is incomplete. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, even though the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Practise building accurate sentences with “if” clauses and check each sentence for a subject, a correctly formed verb, and appropriate articles.
