Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters (such as food, clothes and entertainment) is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some individuals believe that guvubg freedom of choice to thier kids is making socity of individuals who only work for thier wishes only.

And other believes that give freedom of choice useful for children to decide their best. In this eassay i will discuss both of points and i will dicuss my point of view also.

Overall both statment have thier significances and flaws.

First of all if a parent relax their child to choice what ever he wants. It makes him stubborn. He will not allows any body to give him advice or choice any thing for him. With the time he feel free to respect others choices and decisions .for example a boy always choice thing according to his mind he will never accept any thing that he dont like or some time parents have not much miney to buy it then they will become enemy of thier own parents.

Secondly if a person not allow his child to choice any thing. He will not have power of decision. Even in small matter he will be stay confused and will not be as confident for his actions.thats creat a little gap in his personality. He will be alwys stay dependent and will not be self defined. Like in future if he want to decide some thi g for himself he will not be confident in this matter.

In my opinion parent should be creat a balnace between giving them choice for some decisions. And some time they should choice things by thier self. It will creat a beautiful balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and give a clear final opinion: children need some choice, but parents should also make decisions. The two body paragraphs are relevant, explaining that unrestricted choice may make a child stubborn, while having no choice may weaken confidence and decision-making. However, these ideas are only partly developed. The example about a child wanting something the parents cannot afford is relevant, but its consequences are not explained clearly, and the second view relies mainly on general statements. Your opening also repeats the task rather than establishing a precise position. To strengthen the response, explain how each outcome develops and support the balanced opinion with a practical example, such as letting children choose clothes while parents set limits on spending.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all” and “Secondly” help readers follow the discussion. However, connections within sentences and between ideas are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, “Overall both statement have their significances and flaws” does not clearly lead into the next point, and the example about parents lacking money is joined to the preceding idea without a clear explanation of the relationship. Some sentences also run together or end abruptly, making progression less smooth. Use clearer topic sentences and link each example explicitly to the claim it supports; check punctuation and references so readers can follow the argument without having to infer connections.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “freedom of choice,” “decision,” “confident,” and “dependent.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “power of decision” and “a gap in his personality,” although these are not natural or precise in context. Noticeable spelling and word-choice errors—such as “socity,” “thier,” “miney,” and “self defined”—sometimes make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Several phrases are also repetitive, particularly references to choosing and confidence. Build a more accurate range of collocations for this topic, and proofread spelling. For instance, use “decision-making skills” rather than “power of decision” and “independent” rather than “self defined.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including conditional ideas such as “if a person not allow his child to choice any thing.” However, many of these longer constructions are faulty, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries can make meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “a parent relax their child,” “He will not allows,” and “he will be alwys stay dependent.” Some sentences also lack a complete or correctly connected structure, as in “It makes him stubborn” following the opening conditional. Practise building accurate clauses before combining them: “If parents let children choose everything, children may become stubborn.” Check subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
