IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters (such as food, clothes and entertainment) is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Childrens are the future of the society. Where some people believe that if childrens make their every day choices then they can not be as generous as others or somehow we can say they only think about themselves but in other way we can say by this process from the very begining they have their own point to grow in their future.
I think children should get the access to make their choices from the begining of their journey. It can be about a food choice or can be a clothig choice. If children have the permission to make choice it would also clear their vision and it will help to know themselves better from anyothers. It will also help to sharp their mind. deffinately we can help them to make right choices but can not force to do anything.
As a adult i also get confussed and fumble sometime to prove my opinion because i was dependednt to my parents to make decissions. So i believe if childent get chance to make the choice from childhood it will enhance the capacity of decission making also and nobody can over powering them.
Also i can say we can not leave all decissions to them because they are very little to understand everything. We should teach them to share everything from childhood.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You give a clear preference for children making choices, and you offer relevant reasons: this may help them understand themselves and develop decision-making skills. Your personal example about relying on your parents also supports your view. However, the task asks you to discuss both perspectives, and the concern that children may become self-centred is only briefly mentioned in the opening, without explanation or an example. The opposing view that adults should guide children appears near the end but is not developed. Your final sentence, “At last i”, is unfinished, so the response does not reach a complete conclusion. The response is also 26 words below the required minimum. Develop both sides and finish with a direct summary of your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some paragraphing, and the ideas generally move from the issue to your opinion, a personal example, and a qualification about adult guidance. This gives the reader a basic sense of organisation. However, the overall progression is not fully clear: the first paragraph combines both views in a difficult-to-follow sentence, and the final paragraph ends abruptly with “At last i”. Connections between ideas are often repetitive or mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “It will also” and “Also”. Use separate paragraphs to explain each view, then add a conclusion, and make links between sentences more precise so the argument develops rather than simply listing points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “choices”, “decision making”, “opinion”, and “share”, and the reader can generally identify your main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the message less clear or natural. For example, “clear their vision” is not an idiomatic way to describe learning about oneself, while “over powering them” does not clearly express the intended idea of being controlled or influenced. There are also frequent spelling errors, such as “begining”, “confussed”, and “decissions”. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for independence, responsibility, guidance, and self-centred behaviour, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “if children have the permission to make choice it would also clear their vision”. This shows an effort to express relationships between ideas. However, the longer structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “Childrens are the future”, “As a adult”, and “I was dependednt to my parents”; these show problems with plurals, articles, and sentence patterns. The opening sentence also lacks a clear grammatical structure, and the final “At last i” is incomplete. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea, then check articles, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentence boundaries.
