Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argue that childern should be independent in making decision on the daily matters which make them good decision maker in a life. while some believe that it is very important for person because they become capable to make decision by visualising the different aspects. I believe it is very crucial for individual to become responsible, however they should share this with their parents because they can guide them.

There are so many reasons of letting the kids decide independently on the minor choices like diet, attire and leisure make them selfish because they always choose pizza and branded clothes and games. This nature make them demanding person and they do not compromise. For instance, in Pakistan many rich family childern are stuborn. If they demand anything then they do not listen to their parents and teacher advice. It is very bad habit among the young generation which make the selfish generation due to this attitude.

On the other side, decision making skill is one of the essential skill of person life because it made a person wiser and responsible. Small choices of person life make person more confident becuase they learn from a experience if they make false decision then they properly analyse the situation. In my opinion, although giving the complete freedom may make childern slightly selfish, guided choices are essential. Parents should allow choices within the limits.

In a conclusion, allowing the childern to make decision make them selfish which has detrimental affects because they always prefer themselves as compared to others. However, it is useful skill of which make them good decision maker by inspecting the all aspects.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear opinion: children benefit from making choices, but parents should guide them and set limits. The examples of food, clothing and entertainment keep the discussion relevant, and the point that children can learn from poor decisions supports the second view. However, the argument that everyday choices make children selfish is asserted more than explained; the reference to wealthy children in Pakistan is broad and would be stronger with a specific example or clearer link to the choices described. The benefits of decision-making are also only briefly developed. To strengthen the response, explain how guided choices build responsibility while also showing how parents can teach consideration for others. Your position is present, though it could be maintained more explicitly throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the other side” and “In my opinion” help signal shifts in the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several ideas are joined in ways that make their relationships difficult to follow. For example, the first body paragraph moves from choices about food and clothes to demanding behaviour and then to a general claim about young people without fully connecting these points. The conclusion also repeats earlier claims rather than drawing them together. Use clearer topic sentences and develop each paragraph around one main point, with linking and referencing that show how each example supports it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “independently,” “responsible,” “compromise,” “confident,” and “analyse the situation.” These choices allow you to discuss both the risks and benefits of children making decisions. However, the range is uneven, and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision, such as “good decision maker in a life,” “detrimental affects,” “stuborn,” and “visualising the different aspects.” Some key terms, especially “decision” and “selfish,” are repeated frequently. Aim to use more natural combinations and vary repeated words—for example, “make informed choices,” “self-centred,” or “negative consequences.” Proofreading spelling and checking whether words fit their context would make your meaning more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession in “although giving the complete freedom may make children slightly selfish, guided choices are essential.” This shows an effort to express contrast and qualification. However, sentence control is inconsistent, with errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. For example, “This nature make them demanding person” has agreement and article problems, while “Small choices of person life make person more confident” is difficult to process because of missing articles and possessives. The opening also begins a new sentence with lowercase “while.” Practise building accurate sentences around one main clause, then add subordinate clauses carefully. Checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation would improve clarity.
