IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters (such as food, clothes and entertainment) is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
A number of humans agree on granting minors to make their own decisions on dailylife perspectives which possibly turns out to be a outcome in a society of people preffering themselves over everything and neglecting other factors. Other group of people accept that it is mandatory for kids to have a sense of decision making that imapcts them.
To commence on this, as some people believe children having their own choices in day to day matters as food, clothes and entertainment could turn out bad as they grow, personally I support this statement, as talking about my younger brother he follows a well prepared timetable and has a fixed sleep routine prepared by my mother which allows him to manage academics as well as his fun time playing games and performing physical activities as its a part of children better upbringing If they make poor and wrong choices on their own and keep repeating, this type of behaviour would get stuck in the back of their mind as a result creating problems in their adulthood with unacceptable choices and would be affecting the society as an indivisuals not having concern for others but for themselves.
In my perspective, people who believe that letting kids make their own decisions about matters that effect them is is totally wrong and I personally don't support this idea because kids are not mature enough to understand what's good for them and might end up ruining their habbits because of this idea in several ways such as, eating processed food daily is unhealthy and welcomes various types of illnesses and might ending up in a hospital because of their own less sensible choices.
In conclusion, a well maintained balance between prohibition on risky choices and allowing minors to have their free will on the easy ones can be an extraordinary method in parenting respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify both views and give a clear preference for adult guidance, especially through the example of your younger brother’s routine and the warning about unhealthy food choices. However, the discussion is only partial: the view that children should decide matters affecting them is presented mainly as something you reject, rather than being explained fairly. The reasons are also broad and not fully developed; for example, the claim that poor choices become fixed and harm society needs a clearer explanation or supporting example. Your conclusion introduces a more balanced position—restricting risky choices while allowing freedom over easy ones—but this qualification is not developed in the body. Explain the benefits of age-appropriate choice before evaluating both sides.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the ideas generally relate to the question. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow because several points are packed into long sentences. The first body paragraph moves from your brother’s timetable to children’s upbringing and then to possible effects on society without clearly connecting each step. Linking phrases such as “To commence on this” and “In my perspective” are used, but they do not always clarify the relationship between ideas. The second body paragraph also repeats your opposition rather than developing a distinct discussion of the other view. Use shorter, focused paragraphs and make each one advance a clear point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “decision making,” “processed food,” “adulthood,” and “free will,” and the main message is usually understandable. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which makes some ideas harder to interpret. Examples include “granting minors to make,” “dailylife perspectives,” “a outcome,” and “a well prepared timetable.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “preffering,” “imapcts,” “indivisuals,” and “habbits.” These issues limit precision even when the intended meaning can be inferred. Prefer familiar, accurate expressions and check spelling and collocations carefully; a smaller range used naturally would communicate your argument more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt complex sentences, including clauses with “as,” “which,” and “because,” but these structures are often faulty or difficult to control. The opening sentence, for instance, has an unclear construction around “agree on granting minors to make,” while the first body paragraph becomes a long run-on sentence with several ideas joined without clear punctuation. There are also errors in sentence structure and agreement, such as “kids … is totally wrong,” and the phrase “might ending up” does not use the correct verb form. Repetition in “is is” further affects accuracy. These errors sometimes make the reader work to understand your meaning. Build accuracy with shorter sentences first, then add one well-formed subordinate clause at a time.
