Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I would like to bring your attention towards the number 24 bus which travels from Northfield to the city center. I am often make use of this service several time during a week.
I use this bus to commute to work in weekdays and ocasionally to visit the city center for shopping during weekends. It is not only affordable but also convenient mode of transport particulary because I do not own a car.
Unfortunately, last week while using the service I have experienced several problems. The buses fequently arrives late, and on some occasions, they do not arrives at all. We have to waiting more than an hour. Furthermore, several times bus is unexpectedly dirty as it's clear sign that it's not being cleaned on a regular basis.
I would suggest that increase the bus service frequency during peak hours and ensure that drivers follow the time table. In addition to this, try to maintain the hygenic and proper cleaning of the buses as a result passengers never suffer from the untidiness.
I hope you are consider this actions seriously and the necessary improvements.
Yours faithfully,
Dhrumil

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: you explain that you use the bus to commute to work and sometimes shop, describe delays, missing services and dirty buses, and propose more frequent peak-hour services, timetable compliance and better cleaning. Your purpose is clear and the tone is generally appropriate for a formal complaint. The reasons for using the service are supported with details such as affordability and not owning a car. The problems and proposed remedies are also relevant, though they are presented quite briefly; for example, you could explain how the unreliable service affects your work or specify how the company should communicate cancellations. Developing these points with a little more detail would make the response more fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, useful sequence: purpose of writing, reasons for using the bus, problems, suggested improvements and a closing request. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Unfortunately,” “Furthermore” and “In addition to this” make the progression easy to follow. The overall organisation is effective, although some connections could be more precise. For instance, “as a result passengers never suffer from the untidiness” does not clearly express how cleaning would achieve the intended improvement, and the final sentence is not fully connected to the request. Use a direct closing sentence that summarises the action you want the company to take.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “commute,” “affordable,” “convenient,” “peak hours” and “frequency.” These choices communicate the main points, and the reader can understand the problems and suggestions. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “bring your attention towards,” “make use of this service” and “maintain the hygienic and proper cleaning.” There are also spelling errors in “ocasionally,” “fequently” and “hygenic.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Aim for natural formal phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, “draw your attention to” and “ensure the buses are cleaned regularly” would be clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and a contrast introduced by “not only…but also.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. Examples include “I am often make use,” “the buses frequently arrives,” “they do not arrives,” and “We have to waiting,” where verb forms or agreement are incorrect. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction, as in “but also convenient mode” and “I hope you are consider this actions.” These errors make several sentences less controlled. Review subject–verb agreement and verb patterns after auxiliaries, and proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause.
