Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the inconvenience caused by your bus number 24.

Most of the time ,I travel by this bus to travel or for work.As this is the only bus that runs throughout the night .I usually take bus number 24 from Brampton Gateway Terminal.

There are two main issues that are increasing problems for all passengers.First problem is delay during night time.Secondly, bus has lack of seating, which caused passengers to travel by standing especially old citizens when bus is full with passengers.

I would like to suggest to add more bus which runs through Brampton terminal,as this is busiest area of local people .This would definitely helps to reduce the rush during nuight time and guve accesity to all people who faces problems while travelling.

I looking forward to seeing a implementation in bus services.

Yours faithfully,

Sukhdeep kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address all three bullet points: you explain that you use the bus for work and travel, identify night-time delays and insufficient seating, and request more buses through the terminal. However, the reasons for using the service are brief, and the problems and proposed changes are not fully explained. For example, it is unclear how often or how severely the delays affect your journeys, and adding buses is not directly linked to improving seating for older passengers. The response is also two words below the required minimum. Develop each point with a specific detail and make sure the letter meets the stated length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening purpose, paragraphs covering your travel needs and the problems, a proposed solution, and a closing. The sequence is easy to follow, and phrases such as “First problem” and “Secondly” help signal the two complaints. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some movement towards more flexible cohesion. However, the linking is somewhat mechanical, and the ideas within paragraphs could connect more smoothly. For instance, explain how the night-time delays affect your work journeys before moving to the seating issue, then show how each suggested change addresses a specific problem. Clearer paragraph development and less formulaic transitions would strengthen progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main concerns, including “delay,” “lack of seating,” “passengers,” and “reduce the rush.” The formal opening and closing are also appropriate for a complaint letter. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “to travel or for work,” “busiest area of local people,” and “guve accesity.” These errors make parts of the request difficult to understand and keep the vocabulary from being consistently effective. Aim for precise transport-related expressions and check spelling and word forms carefully. For example, describe “frequent delays” and “overcrowding” rather than relying on broad or awkward phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence explaining that the service runs throughout the night and a sentence describing the effect of full buses on older passengers. However, control is uneven, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes make the message harder to read. Examples include “This would definitely helps,” “I looking forward,” and the fragment beginning “As this is the only bus.” There are also run-on or poorly separated sentences, such as the opening travel explanation. Use complete sentences, check subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and punctuate clauses carefully. These corrections would make your meaning more consistently clear.
