Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to you to express my concerns regarding your bus service and request you to improve it so that I can commute easily and reach at time.

I am working in LHMA day care which is located in city centre. I live in the north east of the city . To reach my workplace, I need to board on nus 24 every weekday and is the only possible way to reach my daycare.

Many times I reach late at my work, because almost every single day this bus is delayed and the schedule is not fixed. Sometimes even driver arrives early and I miss it as a result I need to book uber to reach at time which further increase my cost of commuting. Moreover, this bus comes after 30 minute so if I miss it by a minute I need to wait for half an hour for the next bus and this makes me exhausted after long shift of my job.

There are some changes that you can do in order to make your service convenient so that individuals those who use public transport on daily basis can reach on time. Firstly, driver should reach on the time so that all the unnecessary delays can be avoided. Moreover, the frequency of this bus would be increased instead of 30 minutes you can reduce it to 15 minutes if possible. last but not the least, there is 98 number bus which can be detoured in the peak hour to resolve this issue.

I will look forward to hear from you.

Your's faithfully,

Hardeep kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three requirements clearly. You explain that you use the service to travel from your home in the north-east to your workplace in the city centre, describe delays and missed buses, and propose more frequent services and a peak-hour diversion of the number 98 bus. The consequences—arriving late, paying for a taxi and waiting after a long shift—make the complaint relevant and persuasive. Your request for improvement is clear throughout. To strengthen the response further, develop the practical suggestions slightly: for example, explain how reliable timetable monitoring or passenger updates could prevent missed connections. The reason for using this particular bus is also stated, though it could be expressed more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information is organised in a clear sequence: purpose, reason for using the bus, problems, proposed solutions and closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Firstly” and “last but not the least” help signal relationships between ideas. The examples of delays and the half-hour wait are placed logically within the problem paragraph. At times, however, the linking language feels formulaic, and the final list of suggestions is crowded into one long paragraph. Use transitions more selectively and consider separating the proposed changes into distinct points or sentences. This would make the progression feel more natural and help the reader distinguish the operational changes you are requesting.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “express my concerns,” “schedule,” “frequency” and “peak hour.” These choices communicate the issue and proposed remedies effectively. There are also some imprecise or unnatural expressions, such as “reach at time,” “board on,” “book uber” and “detoured in the peak hour”; these reduce the naturalness of the letter even though the intended meaning is generally clear. Spelling and word-form control also need attention, as in “nus 24” and “Your's faithfully.” Aim for accurate transport collocations and consistent formal phrasing. More precise vocabulary would make your requests sound clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if I miss it by a minute” and a longer sentence explaining the effect of delays on your commute. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. For example, “I need to board on bus 24 every weekday and is the only possible way” has an unclear subject and faulty coordination; “this further increase my cost” has subject–verb disagreement; and “I will look forward to hear from you” uses the wrong verb form after “look forward to.” There are also issues with articles, prepositions and punctuation. Check each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and proofread verb agreement and infinitive/gerund patterns.
