Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to inform you about the event recently happend at your hotel on 20 oct, 2026. The Conference was about the company's anunual ferformance and also to discuss the future business strategie, which was attented by approximately 100 members including Executives. First of all I would like to tell you that arrangements were amazing there I really appretiate it

I was particularly imressed by huge hall and elegent decoration. Moreover, the staff were extremely cooprative and professional. The food was also delicious, and overall enviromnment was comfortable and welcoming.

There are some areas need to be improved. Firstly, Sound system should be upto date because it was creating unplasant noise. Secondly, the food service should be more efficient, especially for large gatherings. After improving these facilities, future event would be even more successful.

Thenks for your hospitality. I look forward to organise more event at your hotel.

Yours faithfully,

Tabinda Yasin

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requirements: it identifies the event as a company conference, describes what you valued about the hotel, and gives two practical suggestions for improvement. Details such as the date, approximate attendance and conference purpose make the situation clear, while the comments on the hall, decoration, staff and food explain your positive impression. The sound system and food service suggestions are relevant and specific. To develop the ideas further, explain briefly how the noise affected the event or what would make service more efficient. The closing also looks ahead to future events, giving the letter a clear purpose and an appropriate overall tone.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear progression: you introduce the event, describe the hotel’s strengths, then move to improvements and close politely. Paragraphing supports this structure, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “Firstly” and “Secondly” help readers follow the points. The sequence is logical, although the opening paragraph combines event details with praise and would be clearer if the event information and evaluation were separated. Some transitions feel formulaic, particularly “First of all” and “Thenks for your hospitality”; a more natural link between the event description and your positive comments would make cohesion smoother. Overall, the organisation is easy to follow, with room for more flexible linking.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for a formal hotel letter, including “annual performance,” “business strategies,” “professional,” “efficient” and “welcoming.” These choices communicate the event and your evaluation clearly. However, frequent spelling errors—such as “happend,” “anunual,” “ferformance,” “appretiate” and “cooprative”—are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, including “huge hall” and “future event would be even more successful.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “large function room” and “future events would run more smoothly.” This would make your otherwise relevant vocabulary more controlled and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at more developed structures, for example “because it was creating unpleasant noise” and “After improving these facilities, future event would be even more successful.” The meaning is generally understandable, but grammatical errors recur. In “There are some areas need to be improved,” the relative clause needs “that,” while “future event” requires an article or plural form. The opening sentence also has an awkward tense construction: “the event recently happened” would be more natural than “the event recently happend at your hotel.” There are also missing or inconsistent articles and punctuation, including the run-on transition after “arrangements were amazing.” Review clause structure, articles and sentence boundaries to improve accuracy.
