Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to describe my experience at an event which was organised at your hotel also I want to suggest a few improvements regarding your food.
Last month, our company had an event for all of our clients and employees. We booked your hotel for a whole weekend. Your management helped us for decorations. We are really happy for your assistance.I would like to highlight some your services.
To begin with, The hotel staff was extremely polite and friendly. Our clients had mentioned it and appreciated them.Your staff was very helpful, without them we would not be able to host a great event. Additionally, hygine was the vital part for our clients and your staff was able to clean and maintain all the corners and rooms of the hotel.
Although, some people had a problem withyour food. They informed us that food was cold and it was not served properly.
I believe that you should look into this matter. This is the only part which needs improvement.
Lastly, we really enjoyed oursleves at your hotel. We want to book for our next event. Please, let us know your availability.
Yours faithfully,
Shivani Panchal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that the company hosted an event for clients and employees over a weekend, praise the staff and cleanliness, and report concerns about cold food and poor service. The purpose is clear, and the closing also indicates interest in booking again. The positive feedback is supported with details, such as staff helping with decorations and clients appreciating their politeness. However, the event itself and the food problem are less fully described: for example, you could specify the type or scale of the event and explain what “not served properly” involved. Developing these points more precisely would make the letter more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: purpose, event details, positive comments, a concern, and a closing request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Additionally,” and “Although” guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth or accurate, however. “Although” begins a sentence without a contrasting clause, while “Lastly” introduces a closing rather than a final point. The opening sentence also joins two purposes without clear punctuation. Use transitions that express the intended relationship, and make sure each paragraph develops one connected point. Clearer reference to who reported the food issue would also strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main message, including relevant terms such as “clients,” “decorations,” “polite,” and “availability.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “maintain” and “improvement.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “helped us for decorations” and “highlight some your services” do not sound natural, and “hygine” is misspelled. “Oursleves” is also misspelled, and “food” and “staff” are repeated without much variation. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “helped us with the decorations” and “comment on the services,” and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including “Although, some people had a problem with your food” and “without them we would not be able to host a great event.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors recur. For example, “I am writing to describe … also I want to suggest” needs a clearer sentence boundary, and “Our clients had mentioned it” uses an unclear pronoun reference. There are also errors in articles and sentence construction in “highlight some your services” and “the vital part.” Review sentence boundaries, article use, and pronoun references, and check spacing after full stops. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
