Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing to express my feeling about company event that we orgaized at your hotel. The event went succesfully and all our staff were satisfied. The main reason we celebrated was for our company 25th anniversary and to surprise our boss with his big achievement.
There are so many things that I want to talk about your place. Firstly, the staff was so friendly and supportive, whenever we need help related to any service they were always there for help. In addition, the food was on top notch and everyone enjoy it.
I would like to give some suggestion on decoration. However, we discuss about a car theme, we did not see anything related to the theme. I did not want to ruined that day, but I just want to tell you like you can talk with your decoration team and make sure it will not happen next time in future.
I hope you will consider my request and thanks for giving your time.
Your faithfully,
Moksh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requirements: it explains that the event celebrated the company’s 25th anniversary and surprised the boss, praises the staff and food, and identifies the decoration as an area to improve. The purpose is clear and the complaint is expressed politely. The positive comments are relevant, but they remain fairly general; for example, you could describe how the staff’s support helped the event run smoothly or what was good about the food. The improvement point is more specific, since you explain that the planned car theme was not reflected in the decorations. To strengthen the response further, develop the event details and explain more precisely what you would like the hotel to do differently.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: the opening explains why you are writing, the next paragraph gives positive feedback, and the final body paragraph raises a concern before closing. Paragraphing and signposting such as “Firstly” and “In addition” help the reader follow the points. The sequence is logical, although some links are a little mechanical, and “However” does not clearly connect the decoration issue to the preceding praise. The sentence beginning “I did not want to ruined that day” also makes the relationship between the event and your suggestion less clear. Use transitions that show the intended contrast or shift, and make references such as “it” and “that day” more precise. This would make the progression smoother while preserving the effective structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “anniversary,” “supportive,” “decoration,” and “theme.” The tone is generally appropriate for a polite letter to a hotel manager. However, several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation problems reduce precision: “orgaized,” “succesfully,” “on top notch,” and “give some suggestion” are examples. Some expressions are also vague, such as “so many things that I want to talk about your place.” Choose more natural, specific phrases—for instance, “the food was excellent” and “I would like to offer a suggestion about the decorations.” Proofreading spelling and using standard collocations would make your meaning more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at longer structures, such as “whenever we need help related to any service they were always there for help.” The main message remains understandable, but some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction affect accuracy. For example, “everyone enjoy it” needs a past-tense verb, while “we discuss about a car theme” needs a correctly formed past-tense clause. The sentence beginning “However, we discuss…” is also not constructed clearly enough to show the intended relationship between the agreed theme and the missing decorations. Review tense consistency when describing a completed event, and check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these patterns would make the letter easier to read.
