Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to inform you about an event that our company organised at your hotel.
Firstly, the event was organised on 5 November to launch our company's new beauty product. Most of the people who attend that event was the company's staff, our business partners, local and national business owners. In total more than 200 people attend that event.
Furthermore, I really like that your hotel tried to make eveything smooth. The hall where you set everything was really big and specially the decoration excellent. In addition, our guests find it so comfortable to watch our product on the big screen without any technology difficulty.
Unfortunately, most of our guests said that the food was not fresh, specially green salad. Also, the drinks that you offered contained large amount of sugar.
Finally, I would like to suggest you to add drinks which has less sugar and healthy for people. Also, try to offer fresh salad and add more variety of vegetables for salad.
Thank you for your time and patience. If you need more information I am willing to provide you.
Yours Faithfully,
Hardeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: it identifies the event as a product launch on 5 November, describes positive features of the hotel, and gives specific suggestions about food and drinks. The details about the large hall, decoration and trouble-free screen use support the praise, while the comments on the salad and sugary drinks make the improvement requests relevant. The purpose and generally appreciative tone are clear throughout. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain briefly how the food affected guests or what kind of additional drinks and salad options would be useful. The closing offer to provide more information is appropriate, though the letter could also state more directly that you hope the hotel will consider the feedback.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: the event is introduced, its positive features are described, concerns are raised, and suggestions follow. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” “Unfortunately” and “Finally” make the progression easy to follow. The reader can understand the relationship between the complaints and the proposed changes. However, the repeated use of additive transitions (“Furthermore,” “In addition,” and “Also”) makes some linking feel formulaic. The final suggestion paragraph also repeats the concerns from the preceding paragraph rather than developing them further. Use a wider range of natural links and connect each proposed improvement directly to the relevant complaint.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes relevant event and hospitality terms such as “launch,” “business partners,” “decoration,” “big screen” and “variety of vegetables.” These choices communicate the main points, and the tone is generally suitable for a formal letter. Some word choices and collocations are imprecise, however: “set everything” is unclear for arranging a hall, “watch our product” does not express the intended presentation naturally, and “drinks which has less sugar and healthy for people” is awkward. There are also spelling errors, including “eveything” and “specially.” Aim for more precise hospitality vocabulary and check spelling and collocations; for example, describe the product as being “presented” and request “lower-sugar options.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple sentences and some longer structures, including “The hall where you set everything was really big” and the sentence describing the guests and the screen. The message remains understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “people who attend … was” needs past-tense and plural agreement, while “our guests find” should use a past form to match the event. In “drinks which has less sugar and healthy for people,” the relative clause has agreement and structural problems. There are also missing articles or determiners in phrases such as “large amount of sugar.” Review tense consistency, subject–verb agreement and article use, then proofread longer sentences to ensure each clause is complete and correctly formed.
