Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing to provide my overall experience about an event hosted for my company, THE CHU, on 6th of August at the hill banquet inside the hotel. The meeting included the participation of 150 people with a breakfast buffet which lasted from 8 to 11:30 in the morning.

I was really impressed on the food and service provided as it surpassed my expectations because it was my first time representing as a host for my company. Besides, when I was struggling with directing the guest to the setting, the front desk supervisor jumped in to help, which i really appreciate.

Everything aside, I would recommend if you could to keep the service department informed at all times of the sanitation inside the hall. As there were high turnover of people and the dining tables were not cleared out which resulted a more wait time for my guests.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,

hhh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three required points: it identifies the company event, gives its date, venue, attendance and breakfast timing, praises the food and staff support, and recommends better attention to clearing tables. The positive and critical comments are relevant and the purpose remains clear. The event details are specific, and the example of the front desk supervisor helping guests gives the praise useful support. The improvement point is also explained through its effect on guests. To make the response more fully developed, clarify what “sanitation inside the hall” means in practical terms and specify how promptly tables should be cleared. A slightly more direct request to the manager would also strengthen the letter’s purpose.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear sequence: the opening establishes the event, the next paragraph describes what went well, and the final main paragraph presents an area for improvement. This makes the letter easy to follow, and transitions such as “Besides” and “Everything aside” signal the shift between points. The closing is appropriate for a formal letter. Some linking is less natural or precise, however: “Everything aside” does not clearly introduce a recommendation, and “As there were…” is left as a sentence fragment after the preceding sentence. Use a direct transition such as “However” and connect the cause and result in one complete sentence. Clearer paragraphing around the recommendation would also help the progression feel more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for describing a business event and giving feedback, with useful expressions such as “breakfast buffet,” “front desk supervisor,” “surpassed my expectations,” and “high turnover of people.” These choices communicate the main points, and the tone is generally suitable. Some word combinations are inaccurate or imprecise, which limits flexibility and naturalness: “provide my overall experience about” is awkward, “impressed on the food” uses the wrong collocation, and “sanitation inside the hall” does not clearly describe the table-clearing issue. “More wait time” is also an unnatural phrase. Aim for precise, conventional combinations such as “share my feedback,” “impressed by the food,” and “longer waiting times.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter uses a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the front desk supervisor jumped in to help” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most meaning is clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In “on 6th of August,” the article is missing; “representing as a host” has an incorrect grammatical pattern; and “which i really appreciate” needs a capital “I” and a clearer tense choice. The final recommendation also contains an incomplete construction: “As there were high turnover…” is a dependent clause, while “which resulted a more wait time” lacks the required preposition and has an awkward comparative structure. Revising these sentences into complete clauses would improve accuracy while retaining variety.
