Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The letter begins appropriately and gives some relevant event details: it identifies a company board meeting, the date, the short-notice booking, and the presence of the chief and managers. However, it does not complete the task. The hotel’s positive features are only vaguely suggested by “hospitality,” and the sentence is unfinished; no areas for improvement are mentioned at all. The response also falls substantially short of the required minimum length, leaving the purpose and key points underdeveloped. To strengthen the letter, explain specifically what you appreciated—for example, staff service or the meeting facilities—and give one or two practical suggestions for improvement, supported by details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic sequence: the opening thanks the manager, followed by information about the booking and the event, then an attempt to discuss the hotel’s hospitality. The paragraphing and opening make the letter’s general purpose recognisable. However, the progression stops abruptly at “Despite,” so the final idea is incomplete and the reader cannot see how it connects to what follows. The response also lacks a closing and does not separate the requested positive comments from suggestions for improvement. Use complete paragraphs for event details, what worked well, and recommendations, and connect them with clear transitions such as “In addition” and “However.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response includes some suitable vocabulary for a formal hotel letter, including “meeting hall,” “professional requirements,” “organization,” and “hospitality.” These choices show an attempt to use topic-specific language rather than relying only on basic words. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural: “wonderfully arranged hotel room” does not clearly describe the meeting venue, and “The hospitality … was extremely satisfied” uses the wrong form and collocation. There are also spelling errors in “reqirements,” “hopitality,” and “recieved.” Choose precise phrases such as “well-organised meeting room” and “we were very satisfied with the service,” and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts some complex sentence structures, particularly “Although I booked the meeting hall with very short notice, your staff managed the hall…” and the relative clause beginning “which the team…”. The first sentence is also understandable as a thank-you, and the event details are mostly conveyed clearly. However, the final sentence is incomplete: “Despite” requires a continuation, and the clause about hospitality does not form a correct sentence (“The hospitality … was extremely satisfied”). The opening also has an unclear noun phrase around “hotel room for company's event.” Use complete clauses, check that the subject matches the intended meaning, and review articles and possessives—for example, “for our company’s event.”
