Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/Madam ,
I am writing to give my feedback regarding the recent event at Grand Height Hotel in Lahore which we had organised for the pharmacists on May 14, 2026.
First of all I would like to express my gratitude for allowing me to arrange such a big event. I had an excellent experience working with my new team. This was organised for the medical professionals specially pharmacists as we had to introduce our latest formula of medicine. I had no idea about the venue but as per advice of one of my colleague I decided to book The Grand Height Hotel.
What I like most about the location was its ambiance. Moreover, the staff was very humble and cooperative.
The only thing I felt was the quality of food that needed improvement. Its serving size was good enough but taste and quality was average. As per my view, only this department needed improvement, otherwise it was a good experience overall.
I hope next time this matter will be dealt cautiously. Thank you for your time and assistance.
Yours faithfully,
Mariam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning what you liked, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the 'ambiance' and 'staff', providing a specific example of why the ambiance was good or what the staff did would have strengthened the response. Similarly, the suggestion for improvement regarding food is clear but could be more detailed to provide constructive feedback. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'otherwise' to connect your ideas. However, the transition between the event details and the feedback could be smoother. Paragraphing is used, but the paragraphs are quite short, which makes the flow feel a bit fragmented. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of cohesive devices and ensure that each paragraph develops a single, clear theme with more sophisticated linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'gratitude', 'ambiance', and 'cooperative'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'introduce our latest formula of medicine' (which sounds slightly unnatural; 'launch our latest pharmaceutical product' would be better) and 'dealt cautiously' (which is not the most precise collocation for handling a complaint). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'as per advice of one of my colleague' (should be 'colleagues') and 'only this department needed improvement' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though there are some spacing issues around commas (e.g., 'Sir/Madam ,'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading to ensure subject-verb agreement and correct pluralization. You have a good foundation, but more complex sentence variety would improve your score.
