Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: it provides details about the event, mentions positive aspects of the hotel, and suggests areas for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the description of the event and the specific feedback regarding the food could be more detailed to fully satisfy the requirements of a Band 7 or higher. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the reader is left with a good understanding of the writer's experience and suggestions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between the positive aspects and the suggestions could be smoother. Some sentences are run-on, such as the description of the servants near the tables, which makes the flow slightly disjointed. Improving the use of linking words and punctuation would help to create a more natural and professional flow, moving the response into a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their message clearly. There are some attempts at using more specific vocabulary, such as 'forthcoming' and 'beneficial', but there are also instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'servents' (spelling error) and 'struggle for not getting anything'. The range is sufficient to cover the topic, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher score. Focusing on more accurate collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing would significantly improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('attendent was look like'), missing articles, and punctuation errors, particularly with comma splices and run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent tense usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid run-on structures.
