Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I am writing this letter to let you know that our company is organizing an event for 25th year of anniversary.
Firstly, the number of invited guests around is 60-70 people. Our institution is also arranging a DJ party, so we need a stage and speakers. Not only that but also cuisines will be in both veg and non-veg options seperately. Although we are arranging the DJ party our company has decided to have a dance competition among the employees owing to that we need chairs in front of the stage.
On the other hand, to greet the CEOs and managers of the company, we need bouques. I did some research of the google, I found out that the hotel also have swimming pool with sauna. I suggest to have mocktails counter besides that swimming pool.
Please let me know the estimated event organize price and you can reach out to me on the same email.
Thankyou

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the event is for the '25th year of anniversary', the tone is a bit informal for a business letter. Additionally, the suggestion for a 'mocktails counter' is a good idea, but the connection to the hotel's existing features could be more clearly articulated. To improve, ensure that your ideas are fully expanded with more professional language and clearer explanations of your requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'On the other hand' to transition between ideas. However, some of the linking is a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the DJ party and the dance competition is slightly abrupt. Using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that your referencing (e.g., 'that' or 'this') is precise will help improve the overall flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your needs, such as 'institution', 'cuisines', and 'estimated'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'bouques' (bouquets), 'seperately' (separately), and 'research of the google' (research on Google). These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more accurate collocations and ensuring correct spelling of common business-related terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Although we are arranging the DJ party our company has decided to have a dance competition'. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the hotel also have swimming pool'), incorrect prepositions ('research of the google'), and awkward phrasing ('owing to that we need chairs'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles in formal writing.
