Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing in regard to the special event that your hotel has hosted recently for Brain Inspires Company on 29th June. The staff of Blazing Star Banquet Hall served 130 people of our company celebrating the 25th anniversary of the organization itself which was organized in the evening in the second main hall.
The service of the hotel was excellent in some major areas. Most importantly, the catering service providers did a wonderful job as the food was heavenily good. Not only this, the staff of the hotel is not only very polite and approachable but their service was also timely.
Although you did a great job of managing everything successfully, there are some areas which need consideration like the second main hall in which our event was organized was not that spacious considering it occupancy; therefore, the main hall 1 should be provided or its current occupancy should be increased. Moreover, we find that there was no one to direct or guide guests about washrooms or other essential services, you were bit short staffed. In order to serve more peole, more staff is needed. These are some improvements that need some consideration by which the hotel can even better. Overall, it was a great experience with you and your service is highly appreciated.
Yours Sincerely
Ravodas

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, highlighting positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development of the suggestions could be slightly more refined. For instance, the suggestion regarding the hall size is clear, but the explanation of the staffing issue could be more specific to help the manager understand the exact nature of the problem. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, moving from the event details to the positive feedback and finally to the constructive suggestions. Cohesive devices such as 'Most importantly', 'Not only this', and 'Moreover' are used effectively to link ideas. While some transitions are slightly repetitive, the overall structure is coherent and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. The use of referencing is generally clear, ensuring that the reader can easily track the information provided.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the context, with some good collocations such as 'catering service providers' and 'special event'. There are a few minor errors in word choice, such as 'heavenily good' (which should be 'heavenly' or 'exceptionally good') and 'considering it occupancy' (which should be 'its occupancy'). Despite these minor slips, the range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly and professionally. The student demonstrates an ability to use a variety of terms related to event management, which is suitable for this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The letter displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the staff of the hotel is not only very polite... but their service was also timely' (a slight mismatch in parallel structure) and 'you were bit short staffed' (missing an article), these errors do not impede communication. The punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences could be tightened for better flow. The student shows a good grasp of formal sentence construction, and the errors present are not frequent enough to cause significant difficulty for the reader.
