Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this email finds you well. I am Sam, from Parexel International Company. I am writing this letter to express my appreciation about the events that we have organized for my company.
Firstly, I would like to congratulate you about the fact that the event was successfully handled by your staff, and we also have got the deal fixed with our affiliates. I would personally like to thank your staff for their positive, friendly, and professional attitude towards our employees and our business partners. Additionally, the ambience was outstanding along with the best quality of audio and visual facilities. Moreover, the food served was palatable.
However, I would also like to highlight some areas for improvement. The Wi-Fi system in the hall was a little bit unstable, which caused a distortion during the presentation. Furthermore, the registration process at the front door was slow and lengthy. You should implement more staff for handling the registration; otherwise, you can also dispense bands to the company for entrance for their employees.
Overall, we are very satisfied with your service, and we would definitely consider your hotel for collaboration on future events.
Yours faithfully,
Sam Viera

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided clear details about the event, identified specific positive aspects of the hotel (ambience, audio-visual facilities, and food), and offered constructive suggestions for improvement (Wi-Fi stability and registration efficiency). The tone is consistently professional and appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of a corporate event. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task by maintaining a clear purpose throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a polite closing. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'However' to transition between ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the positive feedback from the areas for improvement. The flow of information is smooth, and the relationship between sentences is clear, making the letter easy to follow. The structure is well-managed, contributing to a coherent and professional piece of writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a formal business context. Phrases like 'express my appreciation', 'palatable', and 'implement' show a solid command of language. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'congratulate you about the fact' (usually 'congratulate you on') and 'dispense bands' (perhaps 'issue wristbands' or 'provide badges' would be more natural). However, these do not impede communication. The vocabulary is sufficiently varied to convey your message precisely and professionally, meeting the requirements for a high band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
The letter displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use passive voice effectively, such as 'the event was successfully handled' and 'the food served was palatable'. While there are occasional minor errors, such as 'the events that we have organized' (should be 'the event') and 'the deal fixed' (a bit informal), the majority of your sentences are error-free. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the grammatical control is strong enough to ensure that your meaning is always clear and professional throughout the correspondence.
