Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to you regarding the recent event that has taken place at your hotel.

It was on 5th of July, starting from 9 am to 5 pm. This event is about progress of the company, and all the customers and employee who has been connecting with the organisation for last 5 years were there.

They all are happy with the arrangements; however, I am particular like the most was service. In other words, we could see hotel management at every corner of the hotel because of this it is easy for people to find the way of meeting. Furthermore, the sound system was quit extra ordinary, that means, voice in the mike was clear and loud.

I would like to say that every things were perfect except parking. There is no proper parking area where individuals can park their car; therefore, many people stuck in jam on that day. If you could make proper rows and signs for parking area, I would be very thankful to you.

we are happy for being hosts of yours,

Yours sincerely,

Harshpreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, expressing appreciation for the service, and suggesting improvements regarding parking. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the event was about the 'progress of the company,' more specific details about the nature of the event would have strengthened the response. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, although some phrasing is slightly informal or awkward, such as 'we are happy for being hosts of yours.' Overall, the task is fulfilled adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'however,' 'furthermore,' and 'therefore' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'because of this it is easy for people to find the way.' Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, and the flow between ideas could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more varied transition signals to improve the logical progression of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'extraordinary' and 'organisation.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'I am particular like the most was service' (should be 'what I particularly liked most was the service') and 'every things were perfect' (should be 'everything was perfect'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('all the customers and employee who has been' should be 'all the customers and employees who have been') and article usage ('find the way of meeting' should be 'find the way to the meeting'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that affect the overall fluency. The errors are noticeable but rarely prevent the reader from understanding your intended meaning.
