You recently helped your company organise an event at a hotel. Write a letter to the hotel manager. In your letter:

– Mention what you particularly liked about the hotel
– Suggest areas for improvement.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sie or Madam,

I am writing to express my gratitude for helping me to organize my Company's silver jubilee event at your hotel for five days from 12 July, 2026. I was extremely happy with your services, and then I thought of writing a feedback to you.

As I said, it was my Company's twenty-fifth anniversary on 12 July, 2026, and we choose to celebrate at Abad Brookside Hotel and Resort after a lot of discussion. Honestly, I would say that booking your hotel was the best option because, all our staffs including me have had a great time there.

One thing which I particularly liked was your dedicated event area near to the brookside, and the activities we had there. Especially, the experience that we had with the ATV's through the brook was immense.

However, one suggestion that I request as an improvement that could be made in future would be to include more options in your food menu, or a buffet option is also appreciable.

Apart from that, everything was awesome at your place, and I will definitely suggest Abad to all my friends when they plan for an event or a vacation.

Thanks to you and your whole team.

Best Regards

Gokul

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identified the event (silver jubilee), expressed appreciation for the venue, and provided a constructive suggestion regarding the food menu. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the task requirements. You have maintained a consistent focus throughout the letter, and the purpose of the communication is clear from the opening paragraph. No parts of the task were omitted, and the response is well-structured for a General Training Task 1 letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As I said', 'One thing which I particularly liked', and 'Apart from that' to link your ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat standard. To reach a higher band, you could experiment with a wider variety of linking words and phrases to improve the sophistication of the transitions between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'silver jubilee', 'dedicated event area', and 'immense' are used effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'writing a feedback' (feedback is uncountable, so 'writing some feedback' or 'providing feedback' would be more natural) and 'all our staffs' (staff is a collective noun and does not take an 's'). Despite these minor errors, the vocabulary is sufficient for the task and does not impede communication. Increasing your use of less common collocations would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'we choose to celebrate' (should be the past tense 'chose') and 'I request as an improvement that could be made' (which is slightly wordy). Additionally, there is a minor punctuation error in the salutation ('Sie' instead of 'Sir'). However, these errors are infrequent and do not cause confusion for the reader. The majority of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. To improve, focus on ensuring consistent verb tense usage and refining the structure of your complex sentences for better flow.
