Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to extend my gratitude for impeccable service your hotel provided us for our company's event.
It was a annual general meeting that took place last week on July 18th, 2026 in the hotel's auditorium. It was a gathering of over 100 people as we had delegates coming over from across the globe, so it was a pretty important event for our organization.
However, your hotel staff, from front office staff to managers to waiters, each one of you made sure that the event goes by smoothly. To point out some, I really liked the way you welcomed our international guests in a traditional way, offering flowers and sweets with warmth and respect. Also, your staff was respected of the privacy of the guests and was not being informal with them, highly professional I must say.
All in all it was a great experience, though i have one recommendation for you to tackle big events more appropriately in future. If possible, have a separate entrance arranged for this sort of huge gatherings as this will help both the attendees to navigate around area and for hotel staff to handle people smoothly.
In nutshell, It was a successful event overall and we are looking forward to have more business with you in future.
Best regards,
Shilpa

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the event, including the date and nature of the meeting. You also effectively highlighted the positive aspects of the hotel, specifically the traditional welcome, and offered a constructive suggestion regarding the entrance. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, meeting all the requirements of the task. Your response is professional and clearly communicates the purpose of the letter, demonstrating a strong grasp of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Also', and 'All in all' to link your thoughts. While some transitions are slightly mechanical, the overall flow is smooth. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of your letter. To reach a higher band, you could experiment with a wider variety of linking phrases to make the connections between sentences feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a formal business context, such as 'impeccable service', 'delegates', and 'navigate'. There are some minor collocation errors, such as 'respected of the privacy' (should be 'respected the privacy') and 'have more business with you' (should be 'do more business'). However, these errors do not impede communication. You successfully use topic-specific vocabulary related to event management. To improve, focus on ensuring that prepositions and verb-noun collocations are used accurately to enhance the precision of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are a few grammatical slips, such as 'It was a annual general meeting' (should be 'an annual'), 'the event goes by smoothly' (should be 'went by'), and 'looking forward to have' (should be 'looking forward to having'). Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free and clear. Your control of punctuation is generally good. To achieve a higher score, ensure consistent tense usage throughout the letter and pay closer attention to article usage and gerund forms after specific phrases.
