Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing to provide feedback about the event organised at your hotel.

The event was organised held at The Hyaat Alberta. The event was organised for the disable people. As our company shares their some of profit in helping them and providing them a better life. The had games and motivational stories which helped them to stay positive in their lives. The timings of the event was morning till evening.

However, the hotel which I booked for the event was a five star hotel. It was the most popular hotel of the city and many famous celebrities usually visit there. The thing I liked most about the hotel was they gave a warm welcome to every guest of the event. Moreover, they helped the guests in reaching their seats and assisted them about the event.

Furthermore, I would suggest to increase the lenght of the auditorium, so that it would accommodate more than 200 people at once. Additionally, kindly improve the quality of food by adding some spices and chillies to make it more flavourfull. I would appreciate it if you would consider my request and make further improvements.

I look forward ot hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Manmeet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You provided details about the event, mentioned what you liked about the hotel, and suggested improvements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the event is a bit fragmented, and the suggestion regarding the auditorium size could be more specific in terms of how it would benefit the company. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully extended with more descriptive language and logical flow, rather than just listing facts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the event description and the hotel feedback is slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next will help improve your score in this area.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'auditorium', 'accommodate', and 'motivational'. However, there are some word choice errors, such as 'disable people' (should be 'people with disabilities') and 'lenght' (spelling error). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'shares their some of profit'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you are using the correct terminology for social and professional contexts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'The event was organised held', 'The had games', and 'The timings of the event was'. These errors, along with minor punctuation and spelling slips like 'flavourfull' and 'ot', indicate a need for more careful proofreading. To achieve a higher band, aim for greater accuracy in subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with fewer errors.
