Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing as a heartful thankyou message to you and your team. I am so grateful for exceptional services from your management team which we received recently on out company event which was held few days back in your hotel. The event was press conference with media and you planning team managed everything professionally from sitting arrangements to food services.

One thing which I want to highlight is food services provided to our guest. I noticed everyone was enjoying the food and drinks even I received compliments from my friends. For me, I really liked Mexican rice bowl. This was the first time I tried this and honestly from now onwards It is my favourite dish.

Also, I want to recommend you something as suggestion which can add the value in hotel services for future and also can make customers happy. I feel the restroom arrangements were not sufficient during the event. Guest was lined up in order to use washrooms. If you can increase the restroom services for future, it will put great impact on hotel services and will enhance the reputation.

Once again, I am very thankful to you for organising our company event successfully.

Best Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning what you liked, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, although the development of the event details could be slightly more specific (e.g., mentioning the date or the nature of the company). Overall, the response is well-focused and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Also' and 'Once again', to transition between ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect sentences more fluidly. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, but the overall progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'exceptional services', 'professionally', and 'reputation'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'heartful thankyou message' (should be 'heartfelt thank-you note') and 'add the value' (should be 'add value'). While these errors do not impede communication, using more precise collocations would elevate the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'on out company event' (should be 'our'), 'press conference with media' (missing article), and 'Guest was lined up' (should be plural 'Guests were'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some missing commas and minor errors in article usage. The errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message.
