Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to express my regards for providing extremely outstanding services in inauguration ceremony of a new product that was organized at your hotel recently.

I am delighted to inform you that my company was extremely satisfied with the services your hotel had provided. The decor was incredibly beautiful and elegant and the food was very delicious. The staff of your hotel was very well trained and very humble.

Furthermore, I would like to suggest some areas of improvement. We were having some connectivity issues in running the presentations. The internet connection was not stable throughout the event, maybe because of many people were using it simultaneously. We were having some connectivity issues in running the presentations. I hope you will consider this as a feedback and will make sure to work on it for the next time.

I hope our company will organize more events at your hotel and i will definitely recommend it to family and colleagues.

With Regards,

Ayesha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You provided details about the event, mentioned positive aspects of the hotel, and offered constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, ensuring the reader understands the purpose of your communication. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific details about the event (e.g., the number of attendees or the specific type of product) to further develop your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'I hope' to link your ideas. However, there is a noticeable repetition of the sentence 'We were having some connectivity issues in running the presentations,' which disrupts the flow of the text. Improving the variety of your linking words and avoiding unnecessary repetition would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'inauguration,' 'simultaneously,' and 'recommend.' While the vocabulary is functional and clear, it is somewhat repetitive, particularly the use of 'very' (e.g., 'very delicious,' 'very well trained,' 'very humble'). To improve, try to use more precise adjectives or adverbs to convey your meaning, which would show a greater level of lexical flexibility and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as the missing article in 'in inauguration ceremony' and the awkward phrasing 'maybe because of many people were using it.' Additionally, there is a minor punctuation error in the final paragraph where 'i' should be capitalized. Despite these slips, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter, and the errors do not impede communication. Focusing on article usage and sentence construction will help you achieve a higher score.
