Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear sir,

I hope this letter finds you well , I am writing to you on behalf of my company name AJAX international.

As you may know, before 2 days we organized an event at one of your hotel called Barista , Overall we really liked the hotel ambience , vibes , food , drinks and most importantly service was excellent.

The event was at the ground floor of your hotel , basically it was conference with international clients of importing our goods and services we had our whole presentation in that room but somehow , it did not went well because of the technical issues and none of us have that kind of knowledge and that moment none of your staff members have experience about electrical experience.

So, i would recommend you to have one of the technical support team in your hotel staff for this types of events , hope you will improve that area.

Yours sincerely,

Rob

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, expressing appreciation for the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it occasionally slips into a more conversational style. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, the development of ideas could be more detailed; for instance, the description of the event and the specific nature of the technical failure could be expanded to provide a more professional and comprehensive account of the experience.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the event description and the technical issues is a bit abrupt. The use of punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with comma splices (e.g., 'I hope this letter finds you well , I am writing...'), which affects the flow of the text. Improving the variety of linking words would help the ideas progress more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some instances of informal or imprecise word choices, such as 'vibes' and 'before 2 days'. While the meaning is clear, these choices lack the professional tone required for a formal business letter. To improve, the writer should focus on using more precise, formal collocations and avoiding colloquialisms. The spelling is generally accurate, but the range of vocabulary is somewhat restricted to basic, functional terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'it did not went well' (should be 'it did not go well') and 'none of us have that kind of knowledge' (should be 'had'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy of the response.
