Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to you as I lately supported my organization to manage a program at a hotel.
The event was about charity to poor. Many people gathered to help out them in managing their living. We also had some guests at the event.
Me personally like your hotel and everyone out their also liked it. Staff of your hotel is also very polite and cooperative. It was a sunny day but the services provided by your hotel such as fans, cold water bottles, chairs and many more amazing.
I would also like to provide some advice so that you can improve it in later events. I would suggests that you should arrange some more place for the parking. As most of the parking is filled and people had to park their vehicles on the side of road which is very unsafe for them.
I would hope that you liked my review on your hotel.
Best regards,
Sukhman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: providing details about the charity event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements regarding parking. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the event is quite brief, and the suggestion for improvement could be more detailed in terms of how the hotel might implement changes. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your ideas with more specific details or examples to demonstrate a more thorough engagement with the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. You have used paragraphing to separate the different points of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and occasionally repetitive. For instance, the transition between sentences could be smoother; using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition to this') would improve the flow of your writing. Referencing is generally clear, but ensure that pronouns and connectors are used more precisely to link your ideas together more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'cooperative', 'charity', and 'vehicles'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'lately supported my organization to manage a program' (should be 'recently helped my organization organize an event') and 'many more amazing' (which is grammatically incomplete). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and expanding your range of vocabulary to include more sophisticated expressions suitable for a formal letter to a manager.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Me personally like your hotel' (should be 'I personally liked your hotel'), 'everyone out their' (should be 'everyone out there'), and 'I would suggests' (should be 'I would suggest'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb tense usage, and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound. Proofreading for small slips in articles and prepositions will also be beneficial.
