Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam
I would like to say that I helped the company with the event that was held at a hotel.
The exhibition event was really successful. People from different cities came to see the exhibition. I helped people to find their interests. Also, I helped the workers to organize and decorate the event. I completed all the arrangements and tasks on time that were given to me.
I had never seen such a big exhibition event like this in such a beautiful hotel. I really liked the decoration of the hotel, the service was also quite amazing.
But I would suggest some improvements in some areas, like there was no air conditioning in the hallway and the washrooms were not cleaned properly.
Your faithfully,
Sanjot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement (126 words). This lack of length prevents the development of ideas, resulting in a superficial treatment of the prompt. For example, the description of the event and the specific areas for improvement are quite brief. To improve, you should expand on the nature of the event, provide more descriptive detail about the hotel's positive features, and offer more constructive, detailed suggestions for the improvements mentioned.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with clear paragraphing for each requirement of the prompt. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and repetitive. For instance, the frequent use of 'I helped' and 'I' at the start of sentences makes the flow feel somewhat mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'In addition to this', 'Regarding the facilities') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the overall cohesion of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. Phrases like 'really successful', 'big exhibition', and 'quite amazing' are functional but lack the precision and variety expected at higher bands. There is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated vocabulary related to event management or hospitality. To improve, focus on incorporating more specific, topic-related terminology and descriptive adjectives that convey a more professional tone appropriate for a formal letter to a manager.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter uses mostly simple sentence structures. While the grammar is generally accurate and communication is not impeded, there is a lack of complex sentence forms. For example, most sentences follow a simple Subject-Verb-Object pattern. There is a minor error in the closing: 'Your faithfully' should be 'Yours faithfully'. To improve, aim to incorporate a variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses (e.g., 'The hotel, which is located in the city center, provided...') or conditional sentences to express your suggestions more formally.
